i didnt know if this is your case or not, but is not the first time i saw it on my multibit client, the first time i saw it on my laptop was a problem of my firewall/antivir, i just configure it, restart the client and it works like a charm.

maybe you can check if this is your problem or not, dunno, but in my case it works.

Basically restart of the wallet should fix it , try that . If it dosen't work keep reading till the end he gave several solutions to get your wallet back.

What is this? Restart of MultiBit doesn't help

There is the message: Another program has changed this wallet. To avoid errors this MultiBit has stopped updates.
SYstem Windows XP on VMWare, MultiBit 0.5.18
