Thank you both, that gives me some reassurance! Cool site-link, hadn't seen virustotal.com before.

OT - Riku2015, do you like Avast? I've been using bit-defender for years but the interface has gotten progressively worse and it uses lots of system-resources. Won all the awards this year, *again*, but I'm not happy with it.

Probably false positive caused by heuristic.

Just downloaded the Multibit (Windows) client from their site and tried to install it. Bitdefender immediately detected the process "malicious application", blocked it and flagged the install file "virus", deleted it. Tried twice with the same result. "Virus name: MIDAS3" .. (eg.  "Malware Intrusion Detection Advanced System" .. BitDefender proprietary technology it seems).

Can anyone offer insight as to why? How do I know this file is safe to use? Given this is a banking client (in essence) and my first Bitcoin excursion, I'm a little on-edge. Thanks for assistance!

  • multibit-0.4.23-windows2.exe : MD5Sum d6cfef5f5a3751efe02cc3a01aadfec4
  • BitDefender 2013
  • Windows 7Pro SP1

(Multibit site posts a PGP signature .. I'm posting my file's MD5sum as I'm not familiar with PGP. )
