How can I get the program to show/give me my 12 words or private keys?

To export your private keys, open your wallet and enter the menu option 'Tools | Export Private Keys'.
You will be able to choose a directory to store your text file containing the private keys. You will need to get that text file onto your PC to import the priv keys into electrum (or any other wallet you have chosen).

Note that you should either sweep the keys into a new electrum wallet (which makes the private keys useless, moving all funds to your new electrum wallet) or import them into a wallet and send them to a new electrum wallet (the reason is that you will have a HD wallet with private keys derived from the 12-/24- word seed instead of needing to rely on the wallet file itself).

To read more about exporting private keys from multibit: https://multibit.org/help/v0.4/help_exportingPrivateKeys.html

Multibit-HD is a piece of junk.

I had unconfirmed funds.  Tried restoring all the different versions did wallet repair, wallet restore would wait hours for multibit-HD to scan the block chain.  Nothing ever worked.

Then I discovered you could create a multibit-hd compatible wallet in electrum

downloaded electrum from https://electrum.org/#download

followed the youtube "how to" and bingo within a few minutes all my transactions and balance turned up in electrum.

As of writing this I haven't received funds or sent funds but my major hurdle of having a wallet with funds showing was my main goal !

Hope this helps other frustrated users of multibit-HD !!!!

That is GREAT news.  I'm going to try the Electrum route.  I've had funds stuck in "unconfirmed" on Multibit 0.4.1. for some time now and have researched on how to fix this, but I want to get this done and leave this all behind for good.

How can I get the program to show/give me my 12 words or private keys?  That way I can  import it into a Bread wallet or Electrum one.  I don't want to do anything to the program without getting those keys.  I have the password that opens the wallet, but that won't let me import it anywhere else.  Have reset, repaired and done everything else short of upgrading to .0.5xx.

Thanks so much for the reply.  I am using MultiBit HD 0.4.1
I sent you a beer for your help.  The funds did move in both wallets,  however MultiBit HD is still showing the full value of the wallet as unconfirmed.  The bug is the unconfirmed XBT bug...  which is apparently a common one with MultiBit HD.  My whole value in MultiBit HD is displayed as unconfirmed.

Sorry for being late... but I believe the unconfirmed balance issue was solved in a newer version of MBHD... The latest version is 0.5.1. However, it has other issues at the moment. Undecided

If both wallets are online and working properly you should see your funds simultaneously move in both wallets when you send them from BreadWallet. I don't know if your multibitHD will become usable by transferring a small amount of coins because I don't know what bug made it unusable.

[/quote]

Yes, the wallet words are the only thing you need to backup to secure your Bitcoins (unless you used a password combined with your wallet words). You can use them in alternative wallets with compatible wallet word formats for disaster recovery. Bread wallet has a compatible wallet word format to multibitHD, so you can use it to access your multibitHD Bitcoins.

When I moved funds to you,  it appeared instantly on MultiBit,  and the value was adjusted....  BUT the whole value is still unconfirmed in MultiBit.

In short,  this demonstrates how wallet words can save the day!

Thanks for your help,  and enjoy the pint!

Q- I still have MultiBit running,  and I am curious what will happen when I send some funds using BreadWallet?  Would my MultiBit wallet be/become usable by transferring a small amount of coins?

Q- Do wallet words essentially allow the "syncing" of funds over several wallets using what is essentially a private key (being my wallet words)?  Is this a form of redundancy?

Thanks so much for the reply.  I am using MultiBit HD 0.4.1

To be clear,  I just use my same wallet words to import the keys and essentially the funds with breadwallet?

Thank for your help,  and once I unlock my funds I will send a beer or two.

Yesw, according to BioChanger you just use your same twelve wallet words to import the keys. He says bread wallet does not support more than 12 words.

Another user called TraderCal11 also says bread wallet successfully imported his multibit wallet words.

Took a long time to sync,  but that has mostly to do with my 4/1 internet connection that is through a cellular hub (no landline service here). Importing my exact wallet words from MultiBit HD 0.4.1 (Mac OSX version) to BreadWallet seems to have worked.

My 3 transactions are now showing in BreadWallet (dates match the MultiBit HD Wallet),  and it looks like BreadWallet worked great,  but I will need to test.

Bread wallet works it just requires the 12 words seen (It does not support more than 12 words)

Thank you all! Solved this by importing keys into bread wallet. I'm fine with having it on my phone.

Does anybody know of a standard way to deal with the unconfirmed balance bug.

I have had MultiBit HD since august 2015,  and I have dealt with the bug before using a wallet restore using my wallet words.

Now,  it appears the bug is back,  and I am having a hard time clearing this one...  I have a slow internet connection,  so synchronizing over and over doesn't help the patience either.

I just want to get the funds out,  and move to another program, while I await a Trezor as I don't have time to deal with this issue again and again.

I have renamed the directory,  tried a restore using words.  Anybody help here?

Thanks

The simplest fix is to install bread wallet on your phone and import your wallet words into it. There's been an iPhone version of bread wallet for years, and last summer they released an android version.

If you install bread wallet make sure it's the real one. There was a fake bread wallet put on the Apple store six months ago. Its probably been removed by now, but others might appear.

https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/4x0inz/important_a_fake_breadwallet_app_was_just_added/

This is the official bread wallet site where you can get links to the real thing.

https://breadwallet.com/

I posted some alternative solutions to a similar problem in the post linked below, but that fix is more work. It involves putting your wallet words into an offline webpage that generates a set of addresses and private keys. You can then import any private keys containing Bitcoins into any type of wallet you want (electrum gives you instant access to your coins).

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.17773212

The screenshots in the post linked below show what settings to put into the offline webpage.

Thank you HI-TEC99 for the quick answers, I finally was able to do this using the BreadWallet I quickly transferred my coins to a temp wallet in Blockchain until I do some research about new software wallets.

As promised, I'd like to reward you for the support and cooperation with me in this matter, please post below your BTC address and I'll reward you with some coins.

Bread wallet works it just requires the 12 words seen (It does not support more than 12 words) I was very lucky having 12 words seen password.

I thank to god that now I can move to another wallet with serious developers and hopefully all will go better than this.

Thank you for your support, you've been rewarded with $20 BTC worth for the help.

Have a great day and keep up the good work.

Now I tried and it and it appears in the top, so I went ahead again and try with my wallet details and loaded around 10k of addresses which I think is less but just to be sure, copied them and imported to Electrum and my balance remains 0.

any suggestions?

How did you copy around 10k of addresses into electrum so quickly?

The only thing you import is the list of private keys shown  on that web page. This is an example list of private keys for the first five addresses that starts with 1EzCCawrCJf33TzwAhEY4ffUBABSACk5cz.

Kyh7BqAHH6gFFMfP3EaoXbg8R67UfAZuZJZcR5hBz1iFwHKc2pYr

Was not quick but took around 15 minutes. Shall I try adding more and more BTC addresses until it appears in the electrum wallet? it will work?

Other question, if I keep putting new addresses and I check in the blockchain and there is no historial (no received no sent coins from that address) it means the address not exist in the wallet but if I create a new address that would be the next? because I just tried lots of addresses and none of them with balance.

You said earlier you managed to recover $40 with a private key. Does that address show up in the addresses you are trying?

Now its giving me addresses and after trying for about 1 hour I only recovered $40 with the private key. This will take me years to verify each address as this wallet is SO long , and multibit HD provided me a new address for each new payment.

Is there any way to resolve my client again?

Someone else with a multibit HD problem solved it by importing keys into bread wallet. I know there's a bread wallet for the iPhone, and I think there's now an android version. You could try that, although I have not used bread wallet yet. I don't know if you put wallet words into it, or import private keys into it.

Tell me the EXACT but EXACT steps you did because I tried it all and is not showing it to me.

So I can verify it actually works, and maybe try again with hope recovering my funds

I appreciate your replies again, thanks for helping. No doubts if I ever get the funds back you will be rewarded.

These are the settings I put into the page to recover your address 1EzCCawrCJf33TzwAhEY4ffUBABSACk5cz.

If an address has had some, but not all of its Bitcoins sent out from multibit then the change gets sent to the list of addresses below. The screenshot shows the settings I used to recover those addresses.

Your derivation paths are wrong. MultiBit uses BIP 44 for derivation paths, not the normal BIP 32 derivation paths. It should be m/44'/0'/0'/k/i

In your original MultiBit wallet, go to Tools > Repair Wallet (or something like that) and see if that works.

Not even trying that.

Here is a example pay attention:

I just created a new wallet using Multibit HD, then I created one and ONLY one bitcoin address which is:
1EzCCawrCJf33TzwAhEY4ffUBABSACk5cz

Multibit HD 12 words seen:
minor betray indicate trouble busy tragic easy diesel gravity window peasant satisfy

Now, if you go to the site and try yourself. It will provide you a lots of BTC address but how is that possible? If there is only ONE btc address linked to that wallet.

The site is not accurate. My coins still locked in Multibit and repairing or switching computers wont work. I also sent a message to the developers but I dunno they will care.

Multibit HD can use your 12 wallet words to generate an unlimited number of addresses.

I tested recovering your address 1EzCCawrCJf33TzwAhEY4ffUBABSACk5cz using the wallet words in that webpage. It was at the top of the list the webpage generated. If you had used multibit to generate more than one address it should have generated the same ones listed below that I copied from that webpage.

Using m/0'/0 the page generated these addresses.

1EzCCawrCJf33TzwAhEY4ffUBABSACk5cz

1EsFnXZAkTwVKw2igqaQ13mgM8y5NQdp3x

Using m/0'/1 the page generated these addresses.

Yes I did, it still gives me random addresses that are not linked with my main wallet, I invite you to try yourself.

I just made a test wallet with 3 BTC address and it still provides me +1k even more...

How is that possible?

I don't  know what the problem is, that webpage worked for me when I tested it with a multibit HD seed.

What do you mean by "it still provides me +1k even more"?

I'm doing this now but Electrum is synchronizing all the private keys and its taking too long, here is a picture:

Is it normal ?

I can't see the picture,  the  bitcointalk image proxy says it's invalid.

Try this

I've now succeed putting all my priv keys into electrum and it just has not recovered not even a cent of my money stuck.

Any ideas?

At the bottom of that webpage there is a textbox marked "Show more rows:". You could try increasing the number of rows it shows until none of the addresses it shows have made any transactions.
Thank you for the fast replies again.

I have tried the "Show more rows" option it just keep providing addresses that are not mine. Also I wanted to test it myself and I just went ahead and made a new Multibit HD wallet with 5 addresses. I went to the page and put all the seed and stuff. And it provides me unlimited BTC addresses that are not linked to that wallet.

Did you click the BIP32 Derivation tab before you entered m/0'/0 or m/0'/1?

You need to click the tab before you enter m/0'/0 or m/0'/1.

If you didn't click the tab the webpage will look like this.

Here is what I'm trying to do:

I go to: https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/

Then I put "Supply my own source of entropy"
Mnemonic Length: Use raw entropy 3 words per 32 bits
Entropy: I put my 12 words from multibit seed
Derivation Path: I click on BIP32
BIP32 Derivation Path: m/0'/0 and tried also m/0'/1

Then it provides me with BTC addresses but none of them are mine, checked them all

Is there any other site like this that I could try or did I something wrong?

Thank you for the help.

Don't check "Supply my own source of entropy".

Put your 12 words from multibit seed into the text box marked "BIP39 Mnemonic".

Click the BIP32 Derivation Path tab and try m/0'/0 and also m/0'/1 again.

Now its giving me addresses and after trying for about 1 hour I only recovered $40 with the private key. This will take me years to verify each address as this wallet is SO long , and multibit HD provided me a new address for each new payment.

Is there any way to resolve my client again?

Which are you importing your private keys into?

If you use electrum you can import them all in one go. You don't have to import them separately, you can import a list of them.

Download electrum 2.6.4 portable from here (because the latest 2.7 versions are buggy).

https://download.electrum.org/2.6.4/electrum-2.6.4-portable.exe

Create a new folder and copy electrum-2.6.4-portable.exe into it, then double click it to start the wallet.

An install wizard window should open. At the top of it select the "Restore a wallet or import keys" option, then click the "next" button.

Another window will open with a box in it that you can type your list of private keys into.

After that click the "next" button and another series of windows should open. Leave each window's settings as they are and click the "next" button in each one until the wallet opens.

You can leave the password boxes blank, the electrum wallet can work without a password, and its password is not the same as your multibit wallet's password.

When the wallet opens it should sync within minutes and show your Bitcoins. You can use it to send them wherever you like.

I've used Multibit for 1 year, always had to sync/reset the wallet at least twice a day because funds went to pending everytime.

Today it just went to pending balance again so I just did the same (reset + waiting till it sync the wallet) but its been stopped in the process of syncing and won't continue.

I went to my other computer and tried the same and stopped the process too. Now I have my funds stuck in that client and I don't know what to do.

Things I've tried so far:

- Changing IP
- Changing computers
- Trying previous Multibit versions and restoring it
- Deleted the %appdata% multibit folder

Here is a picture when it just get stuck and wont restore the wallet

I need help to save my funds as there is around $4000 BTC worth.

Any helps or suggestions?

I posted some solutions to a similar problem in this post.

Tried them all and nothing new, I've spent 8 hours googling yesterday. I regret that I choose using Multibit I swear. Too much money stuck.

Also, this page: https://iancoleman.github.io/bip39/
I provide my 12 words seed and it provides me with a list of public and private addresses but none of them are mine, and all has 0 BTC.

Need this fixed...

Did you try putting the text below in the BIP32 Derivation Path box?

m/0'/0

Did you also try putting the text below in the BIP32 Derivation Path box to check if your Bitcoins are in change addresses?

m/0'/1

If you have used Multibit for 1 year it's likely you made at least one transaction. After any transaction multibit HD might have sent your remaining Bitcoins to a change address.
