Do yourself a favor and order one now if only to have a spare.

Makes total sense to me

Thanks for the answer guys. So the fan would cause everything else to crash. I've already unplugged and plugged back both fans a few times with no luck. I read in the forum that some people try to switch both fans on the controller, you think that would be of any help? Didn't try it yet.
If you did that it would certainly prove that it is a bad fan when you see it move to the other channel. Yes it certainly is bitmains problem and should be covered under warranty ( if you purchased directly from them) but you have to consider the cost effectiveness, Any warranty option other than them sending you a new fan just wouldn't be worth your time. Do yourself a favor and order one now if only to have a spare.

It's true, the controller won't even attempt to initialize the boards if a problem is detected with the fans. Try reseating the fan connections.

Lucky for you there was just a discussion about replacement fans.

Thanks for the info it's going to be useful. But hey if a fan dies after only one week of usage, shouldn't be Bitmain who's responsible for that?

Looks like one of your fans is failing. I think that if the miner determines a fan is out, it won't do much after that.

Hi guys,

I've been trying to find a solution to some problems I have with one of my S9. Anything that can point me to a possible solution will be much appreciated. I've been reading and trying things all day long but sadly nothing has worked out yet. Much pain!

Here's the details:

The machine is an Antminer S9 13.5 th/s (dont't know exactly which batch but it was shipped on Jan 5 2018), bought from the manufacturer. The miner has worked well since I plugged it in for the first time around 7 days ago. This morning it has stopped to hash all of a sudden and since then I have those problems:

- Hasboards:
the red leds on each hashboards are off.

- GUI: Sytem > Overview:
nothing is displayed at Hardware Version
nothing is displayed at BMminer Version

- GUI: Sytem > Miner Status:
   Displaying no information

- GUI: Sytem > Kernel Log:
can't find any of the 3 hashboards
   can't find bmminer
   fan problem:
   - get fan[5] speed=840
   - get fan[2] speed=4800
   - Fatal Error: some Fan lost or Fan speed low!

Note that climate is near perfection, dry, fresh and very little dust. Chip temperatures ranging from 70 to 80. I just hope I won't need to send it back over there...
