The item could have got damage during the shipping process.
Yeah it can be. Sometime it happens due to courier companies lack of careness about electric and fragile products. In this type of case buyer can return the product just by informing seller or marketplace authority.

How is the seller supposed to know if you are lying to him or not?
Seller can ask for products picture to justify the claim and i am not seeing any problem in providing details. OP should send him broken product picture and after that if seller don't make response then only he can raise accusation. IMO seller or marketplace haven't done it intentionally although based on this topic information i don't think seller have account in bitcointalk.

Hah!!! For 20$ I have to bother with taking and sending pic so that he believes in me !! Unless I do that he will not honor or believe my words!!
Just be aware of this scammers on the openbazaar. It is nice platform but not as robust feedback and dispute resolution mechanism as other platform like ebay and amazon and scammers like this will take advantage of you!

What is so hard with taking a picture of your supposedly damaged item and sending it to the seller?

Be reasonable OP and send him the picture if you want the dispute to be resolved instead of coming out to accuse the seller yet you haven't even done your part.

First you are in the wrong section depending on what you want to do. If this is solely about open bazaar then it belongs in Service Discussion , If it is a scam accusation then it should be moved there.

The part I quoted is completely reasonable. If there is a dispute then why wouldn't they ask for a picture?? It's a very simple request and makes you seem unreasonable. When I was selling things on ebay, if there was an issue I would always request an image to help back up their claims. Look at it from the otherside, you could be scamming them for a 20$ item because you want it for free, you are expecting them to take you at your word.

Before I make a large purchase costing hundreds, I decided small item like 20+$ headphone from this guy to see how smoothly the transaction goes and how reliably disputes are resolved.
Oh boy, I think openbazaar has long way to go in this respect.

Received the headphone, it is different than pictured and it is broken. I opened dispute but yet to hear from moderator after several weeks.
