I think it's always best to sell Alt coins when you've already made some substantial gains. It would be better to sell them at identified price resistance levels.

If you think that the coin that you hold could be more profitable then hold it longer ,I see Stratis as a good coin to hold for long term, but the other you better sell it, usually the rising of BTC going to pressed down the alt price, but seems like BTC won't be pumping soon, for now trading alt coin is more profitable

Better act now because this fork thats coming might cause bitcoin price to rise as people will be trying to get themselves some free coins from the fork...but if your altcoins are performing well let them gather more value than cashing out now.

Hi guys,

This is my first post.

So, for the first time since the beginning of my cryptocurrency journey (began 2 weeks ago), I'm slightly in profit with some of my altcoins (Stratis, Icon, Raiblocks). Could you tell me - from your experience - if I should take profits now, before BTC starts to rise again? Because what I fear is this:

1. if BTC rises again, people sell their altcoins to join in the rise of BTC. Everyone loves joining the BTC hype train.
2. So if altcoins are being sold, the price of altcoins will drop. And my profits will be gone.

Am I wrong in thinking like this? What do you veterans think? Any experience with what will happen to altcoin prices once BTC rises again and makes it to, say, 15k USD or so?

If you are looking to gain off short term price changes then it's always a good strategy. If you think bitcoin will grow more than your alts then of course do it. Longer term you should hope for your alts to out perform bitcoin.

If you are already satisfied with your gains, go right ahead. However, I'm not too sure about jumping into BTC right now.

Look! You sell now with a little profit and what then? Will you be satisfied with this or you wanna more? In crypto wins the most patient, remember that. you should analyze the trading history of the tokens/coins before you  sell anything. With big possibility you will loose profit in 300-500% next half a year. For example Stratis price was 410k satoshi in june and i think next year it will hit its record, and now you can fix just for 95k. That is silly.

As long as you're invested in solid projects I wouldn't worry too much, but take profits on the shitcoins or coins you foresee being troubled in the future.

It does not mean that when everytime Bitcoin rises altcoins sees the buttom. Look at last week, everyone falled and some very little project's money rised. You can not know that. Just trust your instincts.

If you are just speculating, you should. But if you believe that BItcoin could not live alone, that other projects have a mean and utility, so never sell. I believe that Bitcoin will be the King in 2018, but it will be not the best investment in terms of return. I will leave not more them 30% in Bitcoins. The rest in solid projects.

I think you should.
I already did it. Exchanged all my alts, except LTC, for BTC because this is the lowest bitcoin dominance I've ever seen - 42.9%.

I guess I was right this time Cheesy Bitcoin dominance is getting bigger, I want to see it now even over 50!

What do you think? Will it pass the 50% barrier again?

You're not completely wrong. Alts have been known to rise when Bitcoin is in decline. I also see some of mine finally in green versus original buying price in satoshi - mind you, first time in many months. Best thing to do now, in my opinion? Book in some profits, keep some for hodl, especially the ones that you bought first because you believed in them.

What I did today - sell off exactly enough to cover my initial Bitcoin buys, plus 1% more, to say I truly profited. The rest I have just kept, if they ever crash to 0, I lost nothing. If they one day become x10, I make a lot of small profits.

Even if not all, I suggest you buy some Bitcoin. These values are a buy opportunity for bitcoin.
I think it will rise again soon. We need to evaluate  Smiley

While its true the altcoin prices are also going to rise these coming days now that holidays are almost over. Those people expecting the return had been holding ever since which is why its always a chance for them to profit when something like this going to happen. They know its an opportunity as it happened before.

I think bitcoin will not rise, it will first fall below $9000, it can't rise now no buy pressure, so it will dump again until there is a buy support.

You'd be lucky if you can buy back your altcoins cheaper as before and gain profit still but if not, then you just made a big mistake instead. If you have about 5000 of stratis, you'd rather keep your stratis because if it flies along side by side with btc, its a lost opportunity.

Yes, i suggest you to sell all your altcoins right now and buy as much bitcoin as you can, maybe you wont like this idea at 100%, but that is the best thing that you can do.

May i ask in how much profit are you right now?

Depends...are you happy with your % gains? Switching back to BTC is not a bad idea.

Lots of people say long term hodling but I don't think you should be afraid of taking profits where they come, because at end of the day you could miss out on more profit or miss a large loss...which would you prefer?

you better off selling for btc and keep it unless you have a way to get btc without selling your alts because no matter what when btc is cheap you get less from selling your altcoins anyway.
