I've just announced aMerits on the beginners board.
So now I need to invent bMerits so that I can have a decent sequence, and, NO, I'm not going to introduce bounty merits. Smiley

Actually I've already got an idea. I thought of beginners, but I might have a better idea.

I've asked for someone to start a thread on the Spanish board, as I don't think I should post in English there.

If you want to look forward into the Spanish board I can always help to translate your own post into Spanish on the FittoTalk project, as well as we can translate any worthy answer from Spanish to English.

Anyway, the Spanish main is being invaded by shitposters too recently, so, even when there are still some decent ones, it is rarer to see each day.

Whatever. Honestly, I think the best way is to maintain the process "organic", if you come to see any decent post in your common activity, then merit it, but to look for good ones looks like a really hard work and also a frustrating task.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it is a waste of time to go off on merit awarding hunts, and one should just continue to be an active member of the forum, and just award merits when one happens to come accross a good post. I think this is sad, as it means that my merit awards will be contained in topics that I found to be interesting.

I don't think that's such a bad thing. There are plenty of other Merit sources who will have different interests to you. Each of you is better placed to judge what is worthy of Merit if it is about a subject you are knowledgeable about and interested in yourselves.

Thanks for reminding me of that.

I don't really like those threads, as I think they pollute the board, but probably not as much as my constant creation of these merit awarding ideas. Smiley

I am alive but in hibernation.
Once Actmyname created a Merit review Service in which  Actmyname  review the last 20 post to award merit.
I can suggest same to you as you do not need to go for hunt yourself but user will report in that thread.
You can create some sort of rules and guideline in that thread for participants.

I try to be proactive, but it is quite hard to get much support, and one sometimes even gets adverse comments. In fact I walked away from the whole situation yesterday, and I spent most of the day visiting friends and drinking tea.

I've asked for someone to start a thread on the Spanish board, as I don't think I should post in English there.

Not being a merit source myself I still hold some small amount but it is difficult to find anyone worth sending merit to. Most of the time those are the "usual suspects" as they are active and do care about the forum.
From time to time some lonely heart popping up, but those a just a tiny fraction burred somewhere in this massive pool of meaningless posts flooding most of the sections.
I suspect that soon some actions will be taken against this madness.Only time will tell.

I decided to follow through on the idea of rewarding contributing members by awarding what I call cMerits. cMerits are not awarded for an individual post, but are awarded to an active poster who is contributing to discussions in a constructive and beneficial way, but may not be making outstanding posts. I'm going to award cMerits in blocks of 5 or 10, and I've just spent 30 minutes looking for the first member to award. So far all I have found are posts that I've reported for placiarism, members with posts that are primarily signature spamming or announcement bumps, and a couple of over formatted posts, which I hate, especially when they are just tarting up the same old information.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it is a waste of time to go off on merit awarding hunts, and one should just continue to be an active member of the forum, and just award merits when one happens to come accross a good post. I think this is sad, as it means that my merit awards will be contained in topics that I found to be interesting. However, new members bring this localisation on themselves by continually making useless ( in my opinion ) posts, and starting TwitBook and other spammy rubbish threads all over the forum. Until new members realise how much they are damaging their prospects, as well as this forum, I can't see any end to it.

I need to get rid of a load of sMerits, so I'm off to the Spanish board to see if I can revive  the Ivory Tower project.
