But what if once available, people start making this thing and it doesn't work or, worse yet, some user hurts himself?

Dude, you're making a firearm out of thermoplastic. I'm pretty sure that's "use at your own risk"  Cheesy

lol... this.

Relax, Bruno. He's on our side.

To be clear, I admire those guys in what they are doing, along with being a Ron Paul supporter.

The reason I first posted on this thread was because I thought I smelled a sockpuppet spouting his own wares. After posting, I was basically done with this. At that point I had no reason to dig into the principals. But after reading the kind reply, something inside me further said that something here just doesn't add up. That's when I when a huntin' and found those links above.

Granted, there is nothing within those links suggesting that something nefarious is afoot, but here is where I have an issue. This team is asking for donations so that they can build a CAD file for a printable gun that will be freely made available worldwide. Great! But what if file has already been created, and this is just a way to profit form it? Nothing really wrong with that either. But what if once available, people start making this thing and it doesn't work or, worse yet, some user hurts himself? And there's no guarantee that it will ever work--build at your own risk. Bear in mind that the word Bitcoin is now affiliated with this project.

Prior to penning this post, I found this: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/godandthemachine/2012/08/eguns-3d-printing-a-firearm/

Again, I have no issues with any of the posters on this thread, or of the fellows involved with this project. But for me, something doesn't seem right.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
C. Rutledge Wilson of Defense Distributed - http://PrintableGun.com

We're stepping out and publicly raising money to prove and spread a CAD/STL file for a completely 3D printable handgun. We're hastening a brave new world, and are happy to be at the nexus of First and Second Amendment and IP issues.

We've been getting a lot of support in Bitcoin, so I wanted to join the forum and learn more myself!

Zino here. I've been into bitcoin for a while, but I've just started my first project accepting bitcoin!

Nah! Nothing like that. During the radio interview, he goes by Cody Miller, yet his online ID is Cody Wilson.

Well, it's understandable that someone who is making a design for a fully printable firearm might want to obscure his identity. Wink

Color me confused, but is this project run by a Cody Miller http://blip.tv/ernest-hancock/2012-08-13-hour-1-cody-miller-printablegun-com-6303217 or Cody Wilson http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/Media/116614-2012-08-13-08-13-12-cody-wilson-printable-guns-tarrin-lupo-video.htm ?

~Bruno~

EDIT: This is odd. I'm the first person to mention either name.

So, this is the first website I have been too that accepts bitcoins, all by chance at that.  All the others I have been too I am specifically looking for or find links too on forums like this.

http://defensedistributed.com/

What is also pretty cool is this is where I found this website.

Pretty cool general idea too boot.  I can see this being the way of the future as CAD printers get cheaper.  Would be pretty cool to need something and just be able to download a file, even if it costs a couple bucks, and print out what I need. :-)

Do you pinkie swear that you're not affiliated with that site?

~Bruno~

Defense Distributed doesn't need sockpuppets to get bitcoiners aware of them, they have their own thread over in Politics.

Zinoviev is a pretty cool dude.

Reprap costs about GB£100 and can print copies of its own components so you can build more, which is pretty neat.

As for finding bitcoin options, that's awesome.
