If your mom’s ready to lose all her investment and comfortable with it then it’s OK.
Maybe she will get a big return or nothing, as soon as she does not put all her saving into btc.
Good luck to your mom.
The way the bitcoin community is a bit destructive in its own way, I had to sit my mother down whom is 55 years old and explain how unpredictable it is to work, however after explaining to her how volatile it really is, she was still prepared to risk her money for a short-term gain if it works, my mother is absolutely awesome!  in her own way that she really wants to learn!

I think it depends more on how willing you are to take risks as a person, and not on how tech-savvy you are, when it comes to investing in bitcoin. Even if a person is not high on computers or the internet, when you explain to them the concept of cryptocurrency, they may be ready to invest. If a person doesn't like taking risks, no matter how tech-savvy they are, they will find reasons not to invest, most of them being along the lines of, "this looks like a scam".

In the grand scheme of thing Bitcoin has barely been a short-term thing itself, let alone the tiny fraction of time it has been in the public eye with any notable value, so I wouldn't expect any great returns fast. Maybe in few years of time, but even then you'd most likely make way, way, way more money with altcoins.

I am with you here. Bitcoin went from 90% of the market down to 34% of the total market. Slowly, Bitcoin will go lower and lower, making room for other newer coins with better transactions speed and fees.
As much as I love Bitcoin, it's a bit outdated.

Your mother was awesome. She can risk the money that she gain even though bitcoin is unpredictable and even the value of bitcoin is not like as the value last December 2017. I wish I had your Mom fighting spirit in risking money.
My mom is a bitcoiner and she is very optimistic in bitcoin she know that value of bitcoin is unpredictable but she continue to invest in bitcoin, she believe that bitcoin will rise up and give high profit.

We have already heard many stories about elderly people investing in Bitcoin. Usually, they were not able to understand Bitcoin at all but they still wanted to earn some money. Let's hope that she won't blame you and Bitcoin for her loss in case Bitcoin declines quite a bit. It is common for newbies to panic sell right after the price goes slightly down. Good luck with helping your mother understand Bitcoin. I'll try to encourage my parents more, like you did.

Pretty amazing that your mother still wanted to invest in Bitcoin after hearing about the risks.
You should have asked her to join you in the video too, now it's just you talking about it.

I've also invested some money in Bitcoin for my dad, I guess he was tired of seeing all the news about Bitcoin and wanted in as well.

your "mom" is basically making an investment and that has nothing to do with bitcoin. it might as well be Stocks or something like that which she chooses to invest in!
and this way of getting involved with bitcoin is not good at all. because first bitcoin is a currency which you should learn more about that part instead of just making an investment and looking for more profit. and second even if you invest and don't care about much else you should be an experienced trader to be able to make profit from a highly volatile market.
