And the s7 uses a boatload of power compared to my S3 with my KNC Titan and eth setup I don't have much circuit room for more, as I still want to put the kettle and cooker on now and then . Come on my beauty! One hash out of 500 or so billion it puts out.

Yup, the S7 expects to take just over five and a half years to find a block at the current difficulty.

This S3 I am using is a soldier, waiting for his day which is imminent. I had to give t he S7 a pass for now, my flats circuit cant handle anymore now I have a KNC titan and my mini etherium farm.

This is like when I left my block erupters to solo mine when they were first introduced in bitcoin so long ago, alas, I had no luck with em!

I love solo mining and i'm currently mining in that pool best share so far 9M.  I just started this morning though. Renting a 1.3T rig for 60 hours to see how it goes.

cgminer will tell you simply something like "BLOCK!", and anyway in your bitcoin core will be credited those 25 coin, so it's impossible to not notice it

I think you should have two sets of stats.  1.  The Actual Numbers and 2. What Would Have Happened if you had not run into issues with hardware and such.  Just to see what a perfect system would produce over your time span.

Back in business! Replacing the PSU and was able to get one hash board working again using its other slot. It is currently mining with one hash board! Soon an S7 and R1 will be joining the solo mining ranks! The moment a block is found all but one rig will be sold off, if not then ive had fun and the cost of an S7 is not too bad that now hitting a block would mean that my heat was paid for, that's the way ill see it.

EDIT: THE S3 is functioning correctly now after a careful soldering job to replace a damaged capacitor on the (broken) hashboard. I am paying  for my S7 when I do my usual bitcoin buy at the end of the week, and will get the antrouter as well.

How much money is this costing you? I had run a s1 for a year straight and gotten a 2B share, then it died. I'm glad other people have the same ambition of finding a block with outdated miners. If you had mined a coin like peercoin solo you might've made a profit, but good luck finding a block! have fun when you do

EXPERIMENT TEMPORARILY HALTED! the S3 has died. After a power outage the S3 and the power supply gave up the ghost. my surge protector was in the reset position, it has also damaged my router. The good news is the warranty on the surge protector is going to cover the damaged rig and my modem. I am going to connect up one of the block erupters i kept spare until I replace the rig!

I don't think you'll have any luck with your plan. Those who mined back in 09 don't have those wallets forgotten any more (7 years passed). Those using bitcoin now know how to protect them. And getting such PC to a repair shop sounds like a very crazy idea.

I feel pool mining is a waste of time on UK electricity rates on a big rig, the S7 doesn't offer enough returns to justify its large cost at the present time, so solo mining on an S3 is the best way to be 'in it'. The S3 is great as a lotto machine

It has only been restarted twice since the start of this experiment, once because I unplugged it by mistake, second due to a power cut as one of our substations went up in flames

P.S when it comes to stealing peoples bitcoins, careful of the karma : - ) I have left negative trust and reported this post, if someone had simply forgotten about it, that could be their treasure trove, like the guy who bought an apartment. Would you steal an iPhone you found on a park bench? Or break into someone's bank account who's details were on the PC? Sounds like a troll though

I'm not mining, but am still sticking with my plan in my side computer repair business.  If I ever come across a BTC wallet I will take the coins and transfer them to my own wallet which is waiting and updated and ready to go on a laptop I keep just for this purpose.  Then I will sell them off and keep the money.  My only fear is that the people may have a password on their BTC wallet.

But this is extremely unlikely to happen, as anyone who can't handle taking care of their PC is very unlikely to know about BTC.

It's not really "stealing" the coins, they just sort of become mine.

do you think as we move towards the higher end of the difficulty we will see many of the big players move off miners and the solo ventures pick back up towards the end of the cycle?

Poolmining isn't profitable either, but the adrenaline rush of finding a block is just huge. I mine PPC solo on my s3 rigs, and it works out pretty well. I found a block 4 days ago and the average block time for me is ~12 days. I found 2 PPC blocks within 2 days of each other once. Peercoin is uncomparable to the rush of bitcoin, though. My S5 is soloing on btc, and so far the highest share on that is 32G. I'm staying optimistic and if I do hit a block with that, well, i'm buying some new rigs and starting a REAL farm!

Wow, you are pretty mad to solo mine with just that set. even it finds a block every 77 months it won't be profitable at all, or it will only be profitable if the bitcoin prices goes up to the double.

The 7B Share many months ago is still the best I got, I gave two rigs away but since December left 1 S3 chugging at it, not been switched off once since December and is still going with nice quiet fans, pumping out 440 GH/S on average. No block yet but it will come : - D so far 6 months into the experiment, although will leave this S3 running. If anyone wishes to donate hashrate feel free the 7B share wasn't bad going mind. The best share since my last post is 995M. Send good vibes for me to find a block! The S3 is using roughly 325 watts at the wall so it isn't too bad. Me and a friend who is in financial need will split the block when it erupts! All it takes is 1 hash!

Got a 7B share! It will happen Pool mining is not really going to be profitable much anymore with the electricity cost here, so I much prefer to take my chance solo mining, one hit means an instant  ROI and very happy, it will happen : - ) Mine are underclocked slightly to the 227 frequency.

In the next month or so I expect to move my S3s to ck's solo pool.  Maybe I'll get lucky before the halving!  (shoot I wouldn't mind a block even after!)

two s3's pointed at ck for about a week now. free electricity so its just a matter of losing my daily profit from them which is only like a buck fifty each

Do you need to restart it from time to time or just letting it run  non stop.

Was the the S3 more efficient then the S1 and if so what do I do with the S1 now solo mine  PPC or Neos?

I have had an S5 soloing on ck's pool for a couple weeks, best share about 5B.  Soloing is keeping the basement warm this winter.!!

Maybe you could try bitcoin.mining.cz - Iam doing there with my 4x Antminer u3 good profits because the Pool has 40ph/s.

It might not be a good idea to solo mine bitcoin now. The difficulty rises too fast. It will rise about 10% in the next change.

Still hashing the 3B share from nicehash during the failover seems to be the highest so far Hashing away : - ) I aim to put 3.5TH of neptunes in a pool but I am waiting for a new bank card so I can pay for it and start mining with it!

Even running them few machines would cost no more than a computer costs to be running on full load daily. So would be very little I would assume. Am looking at maybe switching my old usb miners on seeing what they can bring in as they use next to no energy at all and well worth the shot or look at some other coins that I did look into that they where for smaller amounts of hash and even some cpu coins or diff algos that am sure can put equipment to use to for my gpu farm but even then with scrypt miners and new tech in the making is going to be hard. But maybe as a off chance have a few running solo mining maybe get lucky like on here. Good luck for the future of the mining maybe find another block before halfing

That's very ambitous. Since the S3 don't use a lot of energy it is worth trying.

However your need to count on your luck. If you will find no block in 2 years, your loss will be substancial.

I hit a 5.1B share with a bitfury miner the other night..... A few months ago I hit a 23B share (iirc) with an avalon hex16a2

Nice block smash in the first few moneys. Maybe stop and quit while ahead. Any more blocks been found since or just that first block and nothing more. Id stop or look buying maybe something out the block you made and advance and progress

In 1.5 weeks a 1.1 BILLION share with 100Mh. That is awesome.

I wasn't trying to say anything bad, just a question.  What if you set up a small server and pool all your boxes toward the one ckpool address.

I find the solo mining quite a 'fun' factor. Best share currently is 26,155,616.70 I am getting a KNC Neptune as I have a free electricity opportunity and that will be in a pool (mmpool). I am also  thinking of getting one for here, shutting off the heating and using IT to heat while getting the heating cost refunded by the bitcoin mined via MMpool. I have another smaller miner currently on MM pool. That share was pulled less than 3 days after failing over to nicehash btw.


I plan to have a total of 10TH equipment in a pool, and 1.3 - 2 TH solo dedicated. All the miners will have a solo failovers in anycase.

Just wondering why you haven't done some work with a pool, rather then go solo.

Hashing away I have been having some serious routing problems which my ISP is fixing and all but one of the miners which is mining elsewhere has failed over to nicehash solo currently! The same wallet address is there. I set nicehash solo as my failover but nothing is wrong with CKs pool as my uncles miner, my friends miner and one of mine (one of the S3s) which is at a different address (electricity is free there) is hashing on CKs pool fine. Having troubles accessing my email too, funny enough everything works through my VPN.

Hoping to be hashing back on CKs pool again but currently hashing fine on Nicehash! My investment is about £300 on these.

I have three pools here, CKs is pool 0 nicehash is 1 and my own node on my VPS server is 2.

tbf I think every hardcore or dedicated miner should have mining on their own node as a failover, it helps protect the network should anything happen to the major pools for any reason!

Good luck to you!  There was another user who setup an S3 to solo mine and he hit a block about a month and a half into his experiment.  I have an S3 that I use for solo mining, and a bunch of others that I use on p2pool.  I also have a number of USB sticks that solo mine... now THAT's playing the lottery .  Oh, and I occasionally gamble and rent a ton of hash hoping for a quick hit.  Haven't found anything on my own yet, but have been part of a group that found a couple blocks earlier this year.  I keep dreaming and every morning I check to see if 25BTC has magically appeared in my wallet...

Edit: the last time one of my personal miners hit a block was in early 2014.  One of my S1s found a block for p2pool.

Good luck. It really doesn't matter if you don't hit a block within 2 years. Give yourself 10 years, and you will at least mine 1-2+ blocks. That's surely a ROI, considering you get 25 bitcoins a block (Ugh. With the upcoming halving, let's say 12.5 BTC a block...) Good luck, and now that I think about it, it actually might be great investing in a few S3s or maybe even funding my Bit-X account xD

I was torn between 3S5s and 3S3s but the s5s sound like miniature jet-engines from my research, while the S3s could be made quieter to the point of no distraction with fan modifications. I have a corsair RM1000 PSU supplying two of them and an antec 520 on the other one. I did get an Ethernet switch for them. Hashing away : )

Plus the money spent on power keeps my thermostat down : ) the heat that comes off these in my highly insulated flat is enough to keep me warm and turn the thermostat down

I told my uncle about this and hes stopped playing the national lottery and just bought himself a cheap S1 to throw in the solo pool, deciding its better value than the lottery! I explained to him how it all works and he was quite impressed haha. He has much less hashrate than me, but anything can happen! As my uncle is a set-it and forget it person his has the same solo pool configuration and failover. I was interested in trying an s5 but the problem is the noise unless I could put quieter fans on it!

With 3 S3"s @ 441 Ghash/sec and 1 U3 @ 63 Ghash, statistically, you should find 1 block every 77.6 months (at the current diff). This means you have about 31% chance of hitting a block in the next two years...

As stated in the topic title, currently 3 S3s and 1U3 are going at it! I have decided to solo mine for the next two years and see what comes up, I might add to the set up later.
I will be sure to update when a block is found! I am wondering though... Is it best I keep them all pointed to CKs solo pool, or maybe point one of them to nicehash.com (as the pool will give different work to the miner so part of my hashrate is working on different 'work' although its then less hashrate going towards the CK work) Currently they are all pointed to solo CK pool and have nicehash solo pool as the failover. I put CKs as the primary as I seem to know I can trust it given the high level of support and the fact its paid out every time a valid block is found and confirmed as part of the main chain. When a block is found I will ping a small donation to CK in that event. It is invaluable as mining on your local client maybe with a questionable upload I don't think is the best move! Wish me luck!
