I can't understand why people use 3rd party wallet. When official blockchain.info is available with awesome security infact Android app is also there so why should we use 3rd party wallet. May be you guys are enjoying 3rd party app with full peace of mind but you will realize when they do something hilarious but no problem everybody have their own taste..... anyway I too welcome mycelliums new feature
You should be banned for shilling or spreading misinformation,  seriously.

I do not thinks that this is possible, so called BTC mixers are well known around. Some altcoins have much better privacy technology.  Wink

I make plenty of use of Mycelium. It's a great project and it's only going to get better. They're developing a lot of new toys. Stuff like this is very necessary to help get more people on side and on board. Long may they continue.

That's why I like to use this wallet because Mycelium always has a nice feature for the user to use, like HD Wallet and Local Trader marketplace. And now this feature.
If Mycelium will really add this feature, then I believe there will be many new people interested to use this wallet. Because we have to pay to mix our Bitcoin in a Bitcoin Mixer site, but with this thing we don't even have to do that.

Why do people support bitocin mixing Huh I think most people using mixer are not using them to be anonymous but because the money is dirty and probably from something illegal to me this is a bad thing for mycellium to do

You are wrong, if someone wants to be anonymous at any environment is not only because he is a criminal, but because he is protecting himself from criminals.
Is like a gun, someone with one can be either a hero or a villain, the idea of polarizing one thing to only one side (the bad) is an idea the ones triying to sell it are doing because they wanna be the only criminals.

+100

+100 more to all above who think that Bitcoin holdings are NOBODY'S business but the owner's.

Buying BTC, mixing it, and then sending it on to a hardware wallet is prudent in my book.  Safe and smart.

If Mycelium does this (mixing automatically), that is an important step.  I will use their wallet if so.

Nothing illegal about wanting to be anonymous, according to your reasoning, something like the TOR browser project is also bad and should not be supported.

I guess we just have different views, I'm more libertarian in my views and think that some laws are not really fair and people have the right to bend/break them a little.
As long as they are not hurting other people with it.

Plus, these things could also be used legally, though it's probably a minority of people that uses these services for that Smiley

Hahaha woah. Ok let's get a few things straight. What makes blockchain.info 'official' in your eyes? It's a 3rd party web wallet (the absolute least secure kind of wallet) and you don't hold your own private keys. Have you seen the news about Mt Gox, Cryptsy, bitfinex etc.? They also were kind enough to hold your private keys. When (not if) blockchain.info gets hacked you'll lose your funds. It may just be an isolated incident and you'll receive an email saying you probably have malware and goodbye or it will be every other newbie along with you that didn't educate themselves.

Whereas I own my own private keys because I hold them on mycelium. They don't have my private keys, only I do. Now if they start mixing coins as well they'll clearly have the best wallet out there. It's a no-brainer to differentiate themselves from the rest of the wallets out there.

Mixing bitcoins itself is not wrong or illegal activity, it is perfectly fine as long as you are not doing it to hide your criminal acts.
Bitcoin newbies have zero interest in mixing because they can't see the dangers or receiving tainted coins. We are pretty much safe now, but in the future with full regulation it could be a problem.
Hence easy bitcoin mixing build in wallet could be a nice addition and feature.

I don't think bitcoin is only mixed because the one who owns it is involved in sometype of illegal activity. Bitcoin is anonymous so tracing is quite hard so it is always nice and advised to mix bitcoin before you withdraw it through exchangers in cash. This can prevent you from getting messed up with any possible investigation in future.

You're definitely in the minority there. Why not mix your coins for extra privacy? Why wouldn't you want that?

I think it's a great idea if it's implemented perfectly but there are always going to be glitches. That's all I would really worry about with this new possible feature.

And I just saw this today on a Bitfury paper (released today, 23 Aug 2016) discussing some mixing methods and the prospects of breaking them:

http://www.coindesk.com/bitfury-research-seeks-shine-light-bitcoin-mixing-methods/

The paper itself is downloadable.

Looks like Bitcoin mixing is getting some serious research...

EDIT:

Here is a quotation from the Bitfury paper (a piece from the Conclusion).  Bitfury is about to offer another tool to analyze blockchain transactions:

4 Conclusion

[...]

Together with other data mining tools, analysis of shared send transactions forms the analytical backend for Bitfury’s Crystal Blockchain – a web service for blockchain investigations and analysis. The first public release of the service is scheduled soon after the publication of the present paper.

It would be nice to see this in reality since Darkwallet failed and didn't receive enough funding to continue the development. If they do release it + the new features ( https://vimeo.com/163878728 ) which should come very soon, they will crash every competitor out there.

I have not heard about this here, but this is an interesting piece:

http://bitcoinist.net/mycelium-may-roll-out-p2p-tumbling-soon/

It looks like it would be based on CoinShuffle technology.

Anything that makes Bitcoin use more private (yet easy-to-use at the same time) is a positive IMO.  The proposed mixing technology would be decentralized as well, another plus.

Comments on CoinShuffle and other mixing/tumbling technology are very welcome.
