wild, you're right and my bitcoin 'checkbook' balances...  thanks for the explanation!!

You're quite welcome! That's also, by the way, why transaction fees are per kilobyte. The more inputs/outputs a transaction has, the more physical space it actually takes to record in the block chain.

When I sent 0.25 coins to 18nLNBp9Qps6kaQhmupoupehVccwQuTsYn, 0.5 coins actually disappeared from my wallet with the other 0.25 going to a mystery 1FB9464Sun77Gpc4PNP4fneTeUoBfpoqro.

This second 1FB9464Sun77Gpc4PNP4fneTeUoBfpoqro address's transaction doesn't show up in my client.  What the heck is going on?

I guess this puts the beta in 0.3.23 beta... what is going on

Probably some retarded transaction fee.

How do you have 700 posts and haven't bothered to learn about something like tx fees?

Excuse me?

That's the URL for the transaction itself. The second address is probably your "change."

A transaction has to reference some number of inputs (outputs of previous transactions) and some number of outputs to send the input to, and the entire sum of inputs must be accounted for. So if the only transaction you ever received was, say, a 1BTC deposit and you want to send someone 0.25BTC, you get 0.75BTC back to a new address as "change."

The extra 0.25 should show up in your wallet when the transaction has confirmed, as long as your copy of the block chain database is intact.
