A name change is a great idea, the 'XXXXcoin' naming convention is really lame, like  'e-XXXXX' 10-15 years ago.

Openstream is OK, but there's probably a better name lurking in the SPR collective conscious.

+101

I'm with you there.  I like Openstream, but I'm not wedded to it if someone has any alternatives.

These are a few ideas to get started.... I'm not confident any one of these is a winner but maybe it will get some ideas flowing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Trove
Disperse
Lattice
Fulcrum
Conexus
Nimirum (Latin for Decentralize - According to Google) - Upon further searching it means "without doubt" ... completely irrelevant...

anyways...

Maybe there are cool animals that collect things (akin to how we will aggregate data) that could make a good name/ mascot (aside from a hamster lol)

or, perhaps there is something, some network of things that acts as a support system for some other thing. (SN's supporting alts / BTC)

or something pertaining to a symbiotic relationship - again SN's supporting alts/BTC

I Like Openstream better the Spreadcoin, that is just a really lame name in my opinion.
Openstream isn't really much better, maybe you should let the community decide what name to give.
If we all supply a lot of options, there will be a much better name in those options.
Also if the name is already trademarked it is not really good if people google Openstream, you want us to come up first on google

Good idea.

Kick-off the name calling  Grin

I don't like the this name change. For two reasons. First, they're is all the branding that has been done on SpreadCoin (Spreadcoin ?) that will be lost. Second, OpenStream look like an open-source streaming software to me Undecided...

We can keep the branding. I actually really like the logo.

Open-source streaming......... Roll Eyes

That's what come to my mind when I hear that Cheesy ! Plus, if a name change happen, the logo won't be much representative of the new name. And if we change the logo, all the goodies that I'm working on will be useless because not up-to-date.

I'm 100% not looking to change the logo.

Georgem is 100% not looking to change the name.

It looks like Openstream may already be a registered trademark. http://openstream.com/

I don't think this will pose many legal issues. We would first have to be potentially causing injury which I don't think would happen.

Also, who are they going to bring to court?  Wink

This is true, but it may confuse our identity with another company.  When newbies trying to figure out who we are start googling Openstream what will they find?

Edit: We could consider SpreadStream
Combines the old with the new. Includes the idea to stream any data over servicenodes. As well as Spread relates to decentralization.

I think ultimately we want to cater to the businesses (end users) who are purchasing whatever service we are selling. I don't see why we couldn't keep Spread/SPR as the name of the coin, while the entire project is named **** (whatever name is chosen). That way the project name is appealing to the business world, and Spread/ SPR is kept as the coin name. That way people could search both...? I guess I really like that Ethereum is the project name, but the coin is named Ether.

DASH had other businesses with the same name but went through with it.

It looks like the majority of people are for the change so... idk

I'm just curious how it will manifest.

I don't get the fuss with all these recent rebrandings. It looks like a cry for attention. "Look at me I'm exactly the same coin but now with a new and hip name!"

And I think Openstream is a terrible name for several reasons. First reason being that it doesn't say anything relevant or interesting, secondly because it's already being used by a number of companies and there's even a programming language called OpenStream and I think it's pointless and just generally confusing to rebrand to Openstream. But you know, it's just my opinion.

I disagree with you on your first point. I think this is a long term marketing strategy, not a short-term cry for attention. We have a really small community at the moment, so it probably wouldn't even reach a large audience. Coins is right in the fact that this is the right time to go through with this because there will be less of a fuss than when we are more established.

However, like you, I'm not totally sold on Openstream. I would like to see a preliminary questioning on what names we as a community might like aside from Openstream, and then vote on those. Right now it's just a binary - Spreadcoin or Openstream. I would love to hear other people's thoughts for names.

So yea. For the name change. Not sure if Openstream is the way.

(I voted for the latter option - Why not choccowakadoodoo... or whatever..)

Edit: Is it possible to name the business platform Openstream (or something else) and then keep Spreadcoin as the "infrastructure" to said platform? Then we could keep SPR as the ticker, which I am in favor of!

But then again, I don't know how this will look in the future. I was seeing it as we have a business facing entity named Openstream, and then the underbelly of that is called Spreadcoin. This set up could just make things more confusing though.

Yes! Smiley "Openstream: Decentralized Business Intelligence Platform" - sounds serious, unlike to the old name.

Openstream because ServiceNodes will be providing several open source services people will be able to stream via professionally managed nodes.

The new name sounds more appealing and less like another me-to-coin.

Now is a good time for a name change, before the project takes off and changing the name becomes a headache to manage.

If the vote is yes to change the name, we will have a second vote on the ticker, either Open or SPR.
