Bangladesh has a stronger form of freedom than its people understand. Their common law is something that people can use to overcome any governmental statute law. The below quote doesn't express this clearly, but it is a hold-over from the time Great Britain ruled.

The legal system of Bangladesh is based on a common law system. However, unlike other common law jurisdictions, Bangladesh's Supreme Court has the power to not only interpret laws made by the Parliament, but to also declare them null and void and to enforce fundamental rights of the citizens. Although founded on the English common law system, the laws of Bangladesh take a statutory form, which are enacted by the legislature and interpreted by the higher courts.

What this means is that the laws that the government sets in place are not as important as one might think. It's the same for the USA.

The thing that is happening in Bangladesh and the USA is, the media and the courts are training the people so that they think that they can only use civil law. This is turning the countries into civil law countries, simply by making the people unaware of the strength of common law.

The people of the USA, Britain, and Canada should take this to heart, and realize that they are being overcome by their ignorance, and by all the fanfare the media places on elections.

Probably, the people should demand for constitutional powers being granted to the Election Commission and appointments to the Election body being free from any kind of political pressures. Checks and balances in a democratic environment is very important in the longevity of any democracy.

I don't get the point of massive rigging in the elections. Awami League has a lot of goodwill in the Bangladeshi populace owing to the independence struggle. Any result which would have been in contradiction to the expectations of the people would have been challenged by the people in form of massive rallies and noncooperation from the people. But I don't see that happening. So rigging or no rigging, we where getting a Awami government in Bangladesh. Why these tactics?
To be honest, no govt. can do such development in Bangladesh what Awami League is doing. Still, they are not getting enough support from people. One thing is clear here. We are still a huge lacking in qualified education. Anyway, I don't want to pull it here. As a citizen, I have the right to vote. No matter who is doing what. People should have the power to select the govt while we people don't have that.
If there was a fair election, I doubt Awami League would win although they are the best. BNP would take the place. If you are up to date with the news, you should have known about the gang rape case happened in the day of the election. No people should support this, no matter who is the rapist. AFAIK, there is a guy from Awami League who is going to be escaped from this case.

On 30th December, Awami League won in the 11th National Election. In most of the seats, the closest contestant got 1/1000 or even less than this portion. For your info, the election was held under Awami League and there are a lots of complaint of vote rigging against them.

A little way back
Before 1986, JP was elected and tried to continue election under his govt. Awami League and BNP raised voice for caretaker govt and JP was forced to dismiss govt.
Later, in national election held in 1991, BNP won the majority seats and formed govt. In 1996, BNP held election under their govt and won, because there was no opposite party. However, the govt only lasted for 12 days and then, an election under a caretaker govt held and Awami League won and formed govt.
I will skip the history of 2001-2008 elections since those are not relevant/on-topic here.

2014-2018
In 2008, Awami League won and formed govt and make an amendment in parliament that there will be no more caretaker govt. 2014 election was held under Awami League and the main opposite party BNP boycott that election. Nothing happened, Awami League formed govt and again in 2018, Awami League held election. BNP have participated this time. But, through vote rigging, Awami League won the election and going to form govt for 3 consecutive time.

What do you think? Will there be any re-election same we had seen in 1996?
I have voted for Awami League but to be honest, I was hoping for a fair election where people can vote as they wish.
