I came in too late to get in on Bitcoin mining.  I'm just mining altcoins on an old Radeon HD5700 at the moment. I agree that mining altcoins can be a lot of fun.   It doesn't do too much, but this whole thing is interesting.  Sometimes mining a new one will be very productive, sometimes a waste.  Cheers as well.

I heard about bitcoin before the big rush a few months ago and found it difficult to transfer USD so mining was the path I chose. I started out with 3 usb ASICS and the BitMinter client. A few months later and I've been completely sucked into this mining thing, reminds me so much of strategy games where you work to gain resources, then use the resources to upgrade workers. So fun that I've rationalized that I really don't care if I make money...and it's true. Its just fun to mine.

I see now the role that the micro-miners play. New coins are released and the micro-miners jump on them in order to get in on the initial flow of coin. The result is that micro-miners serve to breathe life into new coins and get them rolling. I feel proud to participate in this role. I hope those devs responsible for releasing new coins appreciate micro-miners.

I'm really excited about Scrypt mining...so much more fun than ASIC. Picked up a fast GPU and now I have 2 micro-mines producing....and keep the new coins coming! I've seen a lot of people complaining about the flood of new coins but...but you won't hear me complain. I love the rush of jumping on a new coin with a low diff Smiley

to the micro-miners!! cheers!
