Most sites default to show the change over the last 24 hours when you first look at a currency.
You will either need to be looking at a site that shows change based on the range you select, or do some calculations yourself.

As DannyHamilton pointed out, with some basic math you can figure out how much the price has changed compared to what you paid.

My gut feeling tells me that thread opener might be just playing dumb to promote another shitty altcoin (in this case "ICONOMI", written all uppercase). But maybe I'm overly critical and are doing him wrong, so I'll give an advice anyway:

It's best not to expand your investment in the altcoin mentioned, because the chances that you will exit your position with a negative return on investment are pretty high. Especially it is not advisable to invest in assets whose mechanics you don't understand or whose price quotation may be difficult to read.

It's ok if you do it just for fun. But there have been so many investment and altcoin scams, a caveat emptor warning seems always adequate.

yea but look at at, it's now at 15% but the line only goes up so how is it possible?

As the Steve Miller Band would tell you...

"Time keeps on slipping into the future."

That chart you are looking at is the most recent 24 hours (1440 minutes).

That means that the starting value (and ending value) was different a second ago, and it will be different again in another second.

When I looked at it for you earlier the starting value was $0.252702, but that was 24 hours AND 70 minutes ago.  Now that starting value (24 hours ago from NOW) is $0.303408

When I looked at it for you earlier the ending value was $0.323517, but that was 70 minutes ago.  Now that ending value (RIGHT NOW) is $0.326163.

The math is exactly the same as I demonstrated before, but with a new HIGHER starting number.

Ending number (RIGHT NOW) - Starting number (24 hours ago right now) = $ increase
$0.326163 - $0.303408 = $0.022755

(Earlier the 24 hour increase was $0.07.  Now it is only $0.02 because the starting value 24 hours ago from NOW is higher than the starting value 24 hours ago earlier.)

Smaller $ increase AND higher starting value = smaller % increase.

increase / start price = % increase
$0.022755 / $0.303408 = 7.4998%

The 24 hour increase doesn't matter.  What matters is what YOUR PERSONAL increase is.  That amount depends on the amount that you spent when you bought it, and the amouny you could get if you sold it right now.

Do the math with those as your starting and ending numbers and you'll know what YOUR percent increase is (instead of what the 24 hour increase is).

It is a day change percentage. You can click on 1day to see the start and end price of the day. Then you can do the computation. It looks like it barely moved but the price is too small so even a few satoshi movement can have a lot of percentage change.

24 hours ago, price was $0.252702
Right now price is $0.323517

$0.323517 - $0.252702 = $0.070815

So, the price increased $0.057492

increase / start price = % increase
$0.070815 / $0.252702 = 28.02% increase during the past 24 hours.

Price changes constantly.  So % changes constantly.

What price did you buy at?

Do math to see how much % return you got.

Subtract price you buy at from current price.
Divide result by the price you buy at.
Result is your percent earned.

Okay so I'm invested in ICONOMI and following it here: https://coinmarketcap.com/assets/iconomi/

as you can see, atm it is on 24.39%, earlier it was on 39% but if you look at the actual progress of the line, it didn't withdraw by much so how are they saying it had gone from 39% to 24.3%?

or am I misreading it and the line represents something else?

anyways, help me understand this please
