well seeing how amazon wont have those 5850s for awhile im starting to go with 3x 2gb sapphire cards. what do you guys think?

It's unlikely that you'll find any 5850s anytime soon, unless you buy them used.

what kind of 2gb sapphires..?

I'm assuming 6950's?

the 58XX's are best performers and 6990.

5830 are just under the 5850 for $/Mh look for em.

Or if you can find some places with 5870's still I saw some powercolors on a month ago (missed it unfortunetly) for 165$ a pop!!!

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157262

It'll do the 3 cards I wanted to fit on it but =\ gonna have to take a dremel to last slot to get exhaust to fit.

This is the one that lots of people recommend:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130274

And it has room for all 4 of my cards without any extenders needed.

This would be my recommendation.  I have one loaded with 4 nVidia cards (different project) and it works perfectly.

http://blog.cryptohaze.com/2011/06/quad-gpu-builds-with-case.html is my build - I wanted a case, since I like moving things around.  The Antec 900v3 (and apparently v2) have 8 expansion slots in the back to support 4 dual-height GPUs.

You can certainly screw around with extenders, expanders, etc, but personally, I don't think it's worth it.  Then again, I did build this for other projects, so cost was less of an issue (I didn't build it to do bitcoin mining - clearly).

uce,

At the price range you are looking at, you might as well get the GD70 so you can put the cards right on the board. But if you want to put it in a case, that may give you overheating (3 cards will be fine though). If you want to keep costs down, just go caseless with extenders. In that case, even a board like the Biostar A870u3 for $65 will work fine. It has 2 pcie x1 connectors, and with risers you can get 4 GPUs running on this board. The better you are at getting costs down, the faster you get to profit.

If I were you, I would consider it, since it would at least hold your 4 cards securely in their slots without using extenders or figuring out where/how to mount the 4th card.

I am currently using it with 2x5850 and 2x5830 and an Antec 1200Watt PS in this case:

Works pretty great, but I have both side covers off the case and two small personal fans pointing at the cards to keep them below 80 degrees.  Otherwise, I have had no problems with any of it.
