Onto this!

Sata is way nicer. They offer smaller plugs and 45 and 90 angles. More wires in Sata than usb is there not?

Want to buy asap! $35.99 is stupid.

Unfortunately I've never really worked with PWM. Digital is really my forte due to my educational background.

I haven't replied, because Eagle hasn't replied. I don't think he will. He's posted a newer riser that uses a molex instead of a SATA plug now. The PCB is much larger now, has 3 caps, and a transistor that I didn't notice before that likely converts either 12v or 5v to 3.3v.

BTW, using more than 1 sata cable may be necessary, but it's not nice on the eyes to have twice as many cables acting as the riser portion. I think the USB 3.0 cable is more elegant.

And they get more expensive yet! Grr....

The old cables still use a little linear converter to make 3.3V from either 12 or 5V. This is the linear IC, used on the old model. I just felt the ones in use for fun, they don't seem too hot. Wonder why he went with such a big IC?

I don't think more than one sata connection is necessary, but I plan to use a lot, not sure how many yet, but enough to carry a full x16 (maybe x8, for cross/sli.) The SATA/PCI-e working method doesn't seem too different, so maybe it would allow crazy custom air cooled gaming rigs that don't burn to the ground instantly! Kinda just thinking of new things to try, the USB cable is top priority of course!

Sata would be cheaper, because of the actual component costs. Sata headers and cables are cheaper, but not by much.

Would you be willing to help design a really easy circuit? I'd like to make a PWM fan controller for watercooled PCs, except using PWM instead of the inefficient linear voltage regulators. I'd like to use a inline thermistor to increase fan speed automatically based on water temp, with a single pot to over-ride the inbuilt, probably liner for simplicity, temp based fan curve.

I learn all things as I go, and this is a project I've been working on in my free time for a while. Nothing pressing, but I think it would be cool and more popular as PWM case fans catch on.

And since I'm not stingy with what I learn (can't be, I learn from others for free!) here are some potentially useful shots of depopulated PCBs





Interestingly, it looks like the TX and RX signals cross over the USB cable. I don't quite understand that, really doesn't make any sense. Can anyone clarify? I've re-probed ten times and this is how it is!

Not quite yet, but I have seen eagle layouts for half of the schematic I laid out. I imagine the guy I hired will have the other half done today, then I will probably be ordering some. I've got a reflow oven, so I'll be "assembling" myself. I hadn't heard back from you and I'm planning for 10+ days of PCB manufacturing, I need to move quick for my GPU order coming early Jan.

Might try a full x16 riser cable with sata links too, I'm kinda having fun with this  Cheesy

I've got a guy working on this now, and he's provided proof that he's actually done something. For now I will consider this filled, if anything changes I will post again.

I'm quite familiar with Ultiboard and related tools, willing to do this for .5 BTC. Could I know more details as to how many layers the PCB will be and the types of vias allowed(buried Vias are a pain to fabricate in some cases). I can export to gerber. Could you link to the ebay page on those riser cables?

That looks like a solid modeling program, in fact if I knew any better I'd say it was inventor. That's not at all relevant to what I am looking for.

I know solidworks quite well, and could crank out a solid model of the PCB if I really felt like it. Unfortunately that is not how you order PCBs, they need .gerber files. Similar, but different.

This is what I'm doing, and why I need USB riser cables.

I need someone to give me a hand with a circuit board design. If you don't like reading and are good at eagle, pad2pad, etc.. PM me.

I started planning a small crypto business a few weeks back, selling litecoin mining cases. My design was to be a little different, so I used the USB 3.0 riser cables I found on the internet. I made the mistake of not checking my suppliers enough, and now I've discovered there's only one manufacturer and he is a real slimeball. He agreed several times to sell me riser cards at a bulk price, but continues to not ship my order yet he still has more for sale on e-bay - at triple the price. I am all but certain my money is stolen now.

So this won't stand, I refuse to do business with slimy characters like this. I have lots of my own money invested in my little plan and I won't see it stolen from me! I need USB riser cables to finish out the inventory of my new case design I already cut, no other riser cables are long enough, but I can't buy them so I guess I will have to make them. I've found all of the components, but I suck at PCB cad work (which is kind of funny!) so I am here asking for help.

I propose I take a bunch of really high quality DSLR shots of the USB 3.0 riser cables I already have to help you lay out a new identical circuit board for me. I will handle everything from that point out, unless you would like more involvement. I am offering .5 BTC for this job, and I have no problem sending the .5 BTC to a trusted forum escrow.
