UPDATE: I've came to the conclusion that Edimax does not work well with dlink. I'm ordering a dlink AP right now. Thanks for the suggestions

Note: Edimax is just one room over from dlink router.

Try setting it up with a IP address higher up with router being .1 setting it at .2 there is a good chance DHCP is given the .2 away to first connected client.

Try a IP like 192.168.1.50 or something. With that IP assuming it was a collision between DHCP and static IP's you should be able to connect without a problem.

Update: still drops connection. Any more ideas would be great.

Could you not simply leave Edimax @ 192.168.2.1?

xxx.xxx.2.xxx is usually a more dedicated group than xxx.xxx.1.xxx because unless you have 255 connections to your router.
