I dont think you get the final cable anywere easy..

But if its only 1:1 (you have to messure a good one) you can get the cable and seperate connectors from any good electronics store (online..) I dont know wich one you have in your area but http://www.farnell.com/ is a good start....

40 pin cable is 40 pin cable,right??.... & the wires aren't "crossed" in the ribbon or near either end,are they??

Glad you don't have an Avalon and need a cable!

This:

2 points:

1, keep the case closed.
2, the 40pin ribbon cable our using is not IDE cable. IDE cables have some internal connect.

Title says it all.

I have an Avalon with a module externally connected due to a short ribbon cable.  Yifu said the pinout for IDE would fry the board, so don't want that!

Seems like searching for "flat IDC 40 pin" gives a lot of results.  But does anyone know how to "test" a cable to see if the connectors are wired for IDE?

I know back in the day I had IDE cables, some were "key"d better than others.  Wishing I could find one of those old cables now!

Problem is, even if I did find a cable I think might work, how would I go about confirming this?

http://pinouts.ru/HD/AtaInternal_pinout.shtml

That seems to show a lot of pins are used for ground, perhaps those are shorted on the IDE (ie non-straight-through) cables?

Anyone got a source for an Avalon-compatible cable?  Seems like instrument tech type suppliers would have the best chance...
