For more security use debian based linux, ubuntu or linuxmint with from official electrum repository. Define DNS server in configfile manually, not use automatically recieved DNS from router DHCP. Many routers very buggy and have vulnerabilities. Comfortable environment for botnets.

Such things happen because users like you do not pay attention to what is happening in crypto world, in this case with Electrum wallet. Phising attack is active for months, and everything under 3.3.3 version is still obviously vulnerable. What we can notice that most of the users who are hacked open their wallets just a few times in year, and in this case they become a perfect target with outdated Electrum version.

I also advise you to buy hardware wallet, not only for amounts above 500$, but even if you have only 50$ worth of any crypto coins. Unlike any desktop / mobile wallet, you will not find a single case of hardware wallet hacking. Just buy such wallet from official site, and never store your seed online.

Sorry for your lost buddy. As said earlier by Royse Ledger Nano with Trezor are good hard ware wallet but despite the wallet are good in terms of security, you still need to avoid human error which could make the wallet vulnerable for an attack just the previous one which I believe it happen cause you dont know the genuine electrum site and I wonder why you still went ahead and download the wallet on the site which you said yourself that it suspicious when you want to post it on here

It's most likely here: https://electrumcore[dot]com/#download. He clearly posted it here after downloading from the site?

As Royse suggests, ledger and trezor are often used as hardware wallets but I'd personally steer clear of them but it might be a good idea for you to use them as it can't go worse than it has done with your download of a fake version of electrum. As a bit of advice though: read what's on the screen before you authorise a transaction on the hardware wallet I've heard that's been a sting before...

I am using Leger Nano S from over 2 years if I am not wrong. Never had any problem however these days I do not use it anymore. I feel more comfortable and safe with a multiSig wallet like I mentioned on my last post.

I see jackg also gave the same suggestion.

You can try it in two different device. Never save the details of both in the save device. This tutorial will help : https://bitcoinelectrum.com/creating-a-multisig-wallet/

They explained 2/3 however you will be find with 2/2.

Hope it helps.

Cheers :-)

It's sadly gone, yes.

I would suggest investing buying a hardware wallet If you're planning to invest into crypto in the future and hold anything above 500$, to be honest, it's worth it.

That or make a multisig with different devices.

Hardware makes people too reliant on it, it should just be used as a stage of a multisig and not the only store of funds.

A $30 raspberry pi does much nicer than $70 on hardware wallet devices imo.

You can track the btc bit it's probably just call in one address of some happy lowlife idiot somewhere who can't code much useful...

You should be able to right click it and view it on a block explorer.

When you are handling crypto it's always recommended that you deal with extra care. It's really frustrating to see people are losing their coins because they did something wrong and their coins are long gone.

When you are dealing with a desktop wallet like Electrum, there are few things you need to ensure:

1. Download from the official site. : https://electrum.org/#download
2. Before installing please please please make sure that you have verified the signature to ensure the authenticity even if you download it from the official site. Tutorial: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/
3. Now you are good to install and use.

To ensure extra security this is what I do,
Instead of keeping my coins in a simple standard wallet, I create a 2/2 multi sign wallet and each key I keep in two separate computer. When I send a transaction then I access both computer to sign the transaction. I understand it's extra hassle but it ensure my coins not to be steal by accident.

By the way, you might miss to read this as well: Electrum vulnerability allows arbitrary messages, phishing

Sorry for you loss bud. I hope you have not lost much.

Electrum 4.0.0 is not existing as an office al release from electrum technologies Gmbh. You've been scammed by the recent phishing attack.

I hope your loss wasn't too great however you really ought to learn from now to verify what you're downloading is the real thing and DON'T CLICK RANDON LINKS!

Where did you download your Electrum? There is no such thing as 4.0v as the latest version is 3.3.4. If you downloaded it from anywhere aside from the link I provided or the GitHub repository, then your coins are lost forever.

Hello guys,

i hope to find some help in this region....
Yesterday i started my electrum wallet as always.
Then a update information appeared and updated my electrum to version 4.0.
After that i wanted to buy something at "mmoga" over coingate.

I pressed the "start with the app" button. After that i checked the inserted data and everything was fine at that moment.
I send the BTC but the suddenly my whole BTC goes away....

Maybe you guys can figure out what happened.

Thank you in advantage
