Hi BTCtalkers,

i want to know if I need pcie x16 to x16 extenders to install 3 amd 7950 on my mobo (that has 3 pcie x16 port)

i'd like to put the directly on my motherboard without extenders, but i saw that it work on x8 x8 x4 , i don't know what does it mean  Huh

so to be clear, does 3 x 7950 work fine on a motherboard without pcie x16 extenders ?

another question : XFX pro 850W Bronze psu can run the 3 gpu?

thanks & sorry for my bad english  Roll Eyes

Hi surphactone,

I'll try to explain it to you. The extenders (or risers) are meant to connect your GPU's with a cable to the motherboard so you can hang them somewhere with more space (see some build posts in the forum).

If you are not going to use the extender (or risers) you can install the cards directly on the motherboard but you cannot use the full Pci express speed. This is however not a problem for mining. The "x16" say's something about the transfer speed between the motherboard and the gpu. For example you can use two gpu with x16 or use three gpu's with x8 x8 x4 which is no problem.

The AMD Radeon cards (Hd7950) use around 200 watt each, so three cards use ~ 600 watt. But you also have a motherboard and cpu which use power. I think the XFX pro 850W should be enough but it depens on the other hardware in your computer.

Cheers,

~ Luc
