What coins are you mining? Mine a less demanding coin like Darkcoin or Heavycoin, to see if it still hangs.

See what temperatures, power usage and voltage you have while mining, with HwInfo.

Go to the Bios, and disable everything not needed for mining. Pay attention to sound, firewire, power options, etc... Underclock the CPU and RAM. See if you can tweak PCI-e settings.

Uninstall motherboard drivers, Catalyst Control Center and redundant utilities. Make your system as barebones as possible. Use autoruns.exe (from MS/Sysinternals) and disable useless startups, services and drivers

Undervolt your cards with some modded bios, MSI Afterburner or Gigabyte OC Guru

Take a look at Windows Event Viewer and see what errors the OS reports. Disable some Windows power options, sleep, screensaver, etc...

Don't use BAMT. Instead use a complete and user friendly Linux installation like Linux Mint 64bit

Hey Everyone,

I put this rig together about 5 months ago.
At first I was able to get it to run with periodic shutdowns and hangs,
but with a startup mining script in place I never paid it much attention.
Eventually the rig starting BSODing more often and would only run with -T
and --no-adl.

Here are some quick specs:

GIGABYTE R9 290 x3 (2 on Risers, 1 On Board)
Thermaltake 1200W PSU
8gb Kingston DDR3 1600mhz Ram
1 TB HDD (I think Seagate at 7200RPM)
ASUS 990fx r2.0

When I run cgminer, it will run for maybe 10-20 minutes and then hang. Sometimes
it will just freeze the image on the screen, Sometimes it will turn to a black screen.
Power settings are set correctly, including advanced settings. Also tried lowering
TC and Intensity/Memclock and Engine but no difference. Running Windows 7 64bit.

I'm currently running 13.12, tried the beta but didn't make much difference. I've
tried using BAMT, but after 6 hours of trying to get my network card driver to
install I gave up.

If anyone has any advice I'd be really thankful. I think it might be my PSU dying
or something loose. Though I've re-seated everything a million times. Also, it
doesn't seem to be a problem with the Risers, I tried mining with two cards
plugged directly to the board and I'm getting the same problem.
