All i can do is open a support ticket...

but doing as @magneto said:

To continue to use poloniex or access your account balances, you need to submit valid ID. An address in the state of New York is unable to be automatically accepted by the verification system, which is why OP needs to contact support.

@TheJadeEmperor

So when you send the ticket you must include your ID and other relevant documents that are necessary to verify your account

it's going to take them forever to get back to me

they had said they would hire more staff, but apparently nothing has changed

Help! I only have a New York State photo ID, I cannot login to my account or verify my account, I cannot access my funds... because I have a NYS address. What should I do? Can you help me withdraw the funds and close my account?

I don't think that this is anything new. New York has been listed as a restricted state since last year: https://poloniex.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/1000252758. So you shouldn't be able to verify your account.

I would personally suggest contacting support about this issue. Ask them if they are able to allow you to withdraw after going through the verification process, so that you can get your money and abandon the account.

That is your only chance. In the ToS, it clearly states that by using their service you are not a resident of the restricted states. However, they should still be able to give you your balance back.
This would be only the last resort for OP to be made where he would really need to explain and somehow beg or asked on how to get out those funds inspite on being a citizen of those restricted countries. There wont really be any chance for it to be re-access but the last option would be account abandon but it would really be unfair if they hold those funds together with the account. These kind of situations would really have corresponding solutions and only admins can really able to give instructions. You would really hope for consideration.
It's not his last resort. It's his only option.

Poloniex is forcing verification on legacy accounts so it's not like it's something that can be avoided. To continue to use poloniex or access your account balances, you need to submit valid ID. An address in the state of New York is unable to be automatically accepted by the verification system, which is why OP needs to contact support.

Since it was against the terms and conditions to begin with to have an account even though you reside in New York, I don't see any other resolution than to close OP's account, and recover the account balance. That would actually be a positive resolution since at least OP gets his money back.

So how can I get verified because I have an address in NYS and I can't get access to my money... does anyone have anyone ideas?

Ok so what happened now? Any updates? Do you able to hear a respond from Poloniex support? They are the only one who can help you here.

Yes Poloniex support is one of the worst but to that kind of issue, I believed they are responsive. I just can't remember on what thread I read here this year with the same situation as yours and Poloniex give the user some instructions.

All of sudden, they require you to verify your account,

It's not all of a sudden. They announced it. You didn't get one in your email? Anyways what happened is happened. Just extend your patience on this matter.

What Poloniex is now doing is a blatant scam - lots of people don't want to verify their accounts, it was supposed to be anonymous crypto-crypto exchange.

Poloniex has announced last year that this may happen (although back then they said that withdraw will remain available). Iirc they said it'll be in Q1 2018.
I withdrew all my funds at the end of January to stay on the safe side, especially as their support is know to be unresponsive.
If people got greedy, it's their loss. Remember Bittrex when they just froze the unverified accounts? At least Poloniex gave plenty of time to comply.

I need some help with my situation, maybe some of you can help me?

I had a legacy Poloniex account with 8k in it. All of sudden, they require you to verify your account, otherwise you cannot access your money. Well I tried to verify but they won't allow it because I live in New York State!

So how can I get verified because I have an address in NYS and I can't get access to my money... does anyone have anyone ideas?

However, most of the exchange sites they don't allow to give the funds out without verification so I think the only thing that he can do right now is to verify his account with government ID or anything that Poloniex required so that they can fully out the funds from the exchange site without a problem.

I think this is the reason why Poloniex is collecting a personal data and verification it is because of GDPR and it's already started last May 25, 2018 I received this on email and also, I read this article from here Yes, The GDPR Will Affect Your U.S.-Based Business

And also other countries are affected by this new rules and if they don't follow the new policy they should pay the fines up to $2 million.

So this is I think the reasons why they are now asking for personal data and verification.

I really doubt the GDPR requires any entity to collect additional data or to demand more from your customers. It's about more strict and unified rules about handling the personal data that you already hold and process.

What Poloniex is now doing is a blatant scam - lots of people don't want to verify their accounts, it was supposed to be anonymous crypto-crypto exchange. There should be an option for everyone to disagree to their new rules change - to withdraw all coins and close the account. What Poloniex does now is just theft.

Thanks for the link and might to read it up later on. Regulation is already gradually coming to exchangers since this is the easiest target on where regulation can really be implemented.Polo wont really have any choice but to follow up or else they would really fined and imagine on how big money it is for them to be charged.Luckily im not an american citizen but i do already expect that sooner or later they would generally need verification for each user no matter which country they do live on.
