Just print out or write down your private keys

Common sense to have these strings anyway..

this really scary if you doing it wrongly. just backup all your data or transfer your coin in online wallet before doing upgrade. It is better or recommended to transfer it online there are many legit bitcoin and altcoin wallet online just like blockchain to avoid lost of your coin during OS upgrade.

you're telling us you haven't backed everything up already?

if you're not gonna be fine if someone walks into your room and takes your computer away forever you're doing something seriously wrong.

I have an electrum BTC and LTC wallet as well as the NEM Nano wallet, BitShares2-light, Dash Core, and myetherwallet on my computer. An app is requiring the latest OS be installed so I thought I'd ask here before doing it... anything to be afraid of? Or just go for it? Currently running OSX 10.10.5 going to whatever is the latest

i made several OXS updates and had no problem with my wallets. make a backup and install the update / upgrade.

Backing up just doesn't hurt.
But I assure you that nothing really happens with ethereum after big windows updates.
I don't mean 8 -> 10, I mean 10 version upgrades.

1) Backup just in case

2) See if you have the seeds / private key of every account in each coin. If you don't create a new address, save the private key / seed / phrase and print it aswell. Transfer the money to the new account.

As with any valuable date there's 3 rules:

1) back it up
2) back it up again
3) yeah, back it up again again

I run my wallet PC with 2 hard drives in RAID 0 for redundancy, have an on PC backup drive, a thumb drive I backup my wallet DATs to, an external hard drive that takes periodic data snapshot backups that I then keep off-site (a different house).

It never hurts to have more than you think you'd need.

It's true for wallet data, as it is for anything else you don't want to lose.  Now that video/photo/etc... is all digital it could be a big loss to have it all vanish.

That said an OS upgrade, especially on MAC should be perfectly safe.
