Make sure to check out btcmerchants.com for a growing list of reputable bitcoin merchants as well. There are some good exchanges on there and lots of sites to spend those hard earned bit coins as well.
whats going on friends, this is my first day on here and everything ive been reading seems really interesting and was wondering if someone would be able to show me the ropes, how to get and use bitcoins and things like that
Assuming you're in the US, sign up here, https://www.exchangebitcoins.com/, take your dollars to Chase or Wells Fargo and deposit them in their account, send them a copy of the deposit receipt and then you can buy Bitcoins.

You can get bitcoins either by purchasing them or by mining.
