The best exchange you can buy bitcoin with cash is coinbase if you're a u.s. citizen. Every exchange wants many documents to verify your identity for cash deposits or withdrawals. You can try also localbitcoins but I don't think you will be able to buy big amount of bitcoin without verifying your identity.
Indeed, with cash you need to go through all these verifications in order to make sure that there is no fraud and money is not from some illegal business. If you are having tough time n buying bitcoins with cash, go for some altcoins and then trader them for bitcoins. In this way you can grab bitcoins too.
It is better to earn bitcoins via signature campaigns than buying them directly because you really need to go though very hectic verification procedure before possessing bitcoins. It is really not an easy process to verify your passports etc. Yep, it is way easier to buy bitcoins via altcoin trading.

Bittrex.com. Go ahead try to check it out. It is based in United States of America. It may not be the number one exhange platform for now but it used to be the top. But until now, it is one of the most used by traders and even holders. Aside from that, there are so many coins there for you to choose and trade from.

I bought bitcoin in various bitcoin ATMs. Some of them asked for some personal information, like phone number or finger print, some of them didn't want any authorization.

You gave them your SSN, bank account and bank statements just to try to buy BTC? Really? wow

Coinbase you enter a card number and thats it

coinbase requires just as much info  to withdraw.

Usually I use PayPal and then buy btc on this forum or another. Or if you have gift card has not been redeem yet, an amazon gift card maybe the best option for this.
Or you can buy on localbitcoin, and paxful. And buy some bitcoin from trusted seller or have a lot transactions.

Which exchanges are ok for Americans?

This is getting ridiculous. Bitstamp doesn;t seem to want US based customers. I've given them as much info as possible and it never seems to be enough. Id verification,  linked bank account, social security number, bank statements, etc. Yet it's never enough
Coinbase  is a no go for me

Any options? My plan long term is to simply get another citizenship but that's not going to happen in the next 48 hours so I'm open to any options
