I also do know how to dump priv keys i was just shocked when electrum only showed the legacy address when i imported my key.

I missed to tell you in my OP. I was using electrum to import my keys to make a quick check because i thought electrum was fully supporting segwit. That's probably why i was freaked out.

A legendary member who doesn't know how to dump private keys, has Bitcash scam signature and sends 50 merits to an alt account?

Wtf are you talking about? If you have a proof show us.

oKay it looks like i am screwed. I can't sign a message with that address with core wallet. Red text says i don't have a priv key. Yet i see it in my receiving addresses.

I extract the the priv key from the 3... address but that priv key belongs to another address which starts with 1.

My bitcoin adventure just ended.

Try bitWallet by Sollico if it helps. I use it and it works when I input Segwit private keys generated elsewhere.

Unfortunately bitWallet is only available on the iOS platform. When downloaded, create your own wallet. The wallet itself will display no addresses yet. On the lower right hand side of the app is a + symbol. Click on it, select Segwit-P2SH, then paste the private key in the the box above it. Your Segwit address (starting with 3) will appear above it. Save it (upper right corner).

Do not select "Legacy" as obviously this will give you a public address which starts with 1.

Your balances are quickly and instantly restored.

No, you're not effed. Try this first before giving up.

PS.. I see you might have solved the issue. But try this anyway as an alternative if caught in a similar situation in the future.

Thanks for your help too. You also saved me. After I set my wallet, i went to bed and now i woke up and saw that there are still years to get synced. I tried Bitwallet and now i can access to my funds.

Btw I don't give a fuck about merits because i don't need any. You were also helpful and saved me a lot of time  Cool So have 20 from me.

It is still early for a celebration i guess. Because some other addresses i just created don't have the other 2 addreses in the same line. :/

As long as you send your coins to one of the receiving addresses in your bitcoin core you ARE in control of those coins and ALL the private keys of the addresses listed in your receiving addresses.

I am not shitting bricks now but i won't be relieved till i see my coins in my wallet. So I guess i'll have to wait a few days.  Grin

Thanks for the great help. By the way here some merits.  Cool

Thx for the happy vibes :-)

No you are not screwed... You exported the private key for another of your receiving addresses but as long as the address you are taking about is in your list you should be able to access your coins.

But why cant i get my priv key of my 3.. address when i use dumpprivkey command? It gives me a complete different private key.Plus i can't sign a message with that 3... address and now i am shitting bricks.

Did you try to dump ALL private keys?

No, how do i do it? one by one?

Let me know if this helps

Ok i guess i am saved this time.

The priv key i dumped leads to 3 different addresses in the text file. I guess that was a feature of 0.16.0 wallet. I see that 1... address in the text file along with my 3... address and a bc1... address in the same line.

Thanks god. That was too close. Smiley

Glad you got control of your coins back.

Made a stupid mistake I guess. I forgot that i was on bitcoin 0.16 rc3 wallet and moved my coins from my former address to an address created by 0.16 rc3 core wallet. The problem is i dumped my private key of my new segwit address which was generated by rc3 wallet which starts with 3... when i import this private key to somewhere else, i get another receiving address which starts with 1. And my tx is not going there. It currently has 1 confirmation to the address which starts with 3...

I can see my segwit address as a receiving address in my core wallet but the private key it gives mewhen i use dumprivkey 3... belongs to some other wallet which starts with 1....

Am i fucked?

btw core wallet is not fully synced. So i cant see whats happening.
