The only problem with diaspora is none of my real friends and family are on it. I tried to invite them, but they are too afraid to step over.

When someone says “decentralized social network”, I can only remember StatusNet and identica. A nice idea, but not much success in my opinion.

I almost forgot about that- the 2010 version of status.net looks better than the current one IMO. There was also a project called diaspora...

Was just about to mention diaspora, i've seen it mentioned a few times here and there but I never got round to signing up.

Personally haven't got much need for social networks etc but it's nice to know there are alternatives to Facebook.

Am I seeing it right? Is that blockchain based social network in kickstarter right now? I don't know if any blockchain related projects can be discussed in bitcoin discussion tho. I would consider this social network to be far more superior to facebook and other NSA related networks for sure.

I think a social sharing protocol could be better than a device.  A protocol that lets you decide what to share and with who. A protocol that lets you decide where you store your data, be it your local storage, webspace or cloud storage, share your personal text messages, pictures and videos, search for shared content through the protocol. Making a device and hanging to that will make it just another means of selling hardware with an incentive. Open up the web again and let people share. A bit like wordpress does, making blogging available to the masses, be it on the .com community or your own hosting. If those things can be tied together in a single protocol that would be nice, a truly decentralised social network, just like your basic rss feed and readers but on steroids. Plug that on kickstarter and I am in!

We probably can apply the concept of the open ledger of cryptocurrency to our social network. Social coins holders could secure the blockchain and the privacy.

I see that more like a nice device to share stuff with friend and family without having the problem to use the server of facebook or other social network.

Actually if you read well (unamis76) the device save the date on a 1tb hdd and you get access to it via ssh secure.

You only can be 5 on 1 device but can make bigger cloud with multiple device.

I do like the idea to be able to share stuff with my family without using google drive, dropbox and all these service that make you sign a contract.

Can someone check the code? Suppoce to be open-source. I will be curious to see the encrypt process.

I don't think average Joe will buy this hardware to involve to the social network due to low adoption rate and its close feature only among the users of the Neobase systems. They are not caring about privacy.

I guess it would be nice to not have your information sold constantly though.

If that is your issue you can join Ello Smiley they do not seem to be monetizing our content, so far.

This doesn't really fit Bitcoin discussion Smiley

Anyways, how is this safer than any other social network? How is this serverless? How does it connect between devices, do they all have unique ID in the network? Pretty hard to run such system without main servers Smiley
