I tried to plug the miner direct to the primary router ... still couldn't see it.
Then hauled it back into the office and tried to connect it direct to PC. Still can't see it.

Turned off kaspersky and everything. The connection was showing as live, but could not gt miner GUI to come up. Always just a got a webpage not available error in browser.

I also tried to reset the miner by depressing the recessed button with a pen. I held it in for at least 10 seconds. Tried it a few times. Nothing ever happened.

Is the miner trash?

With antminer C1 it should not be a trash miner.

Best idea I can think of for you with all the different network IP's is dhcp.  I have not tested the image but in C1 thread there is a microSD card image that say's it is set for dhcp: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.10910625

I suggest using a 2nd microSD card as I don't want you to lose original incase of problems.  If that works you should be able to connect to your network and then you will have to find IP it is using, and with DHCP it will change.

Does my miner (Ant C1) have to be connected to the same router as the primary WAN source?

My computer and miner are in my home office where the computer is connected to the internet wireless. The modem is in another room.
I tried to buy a network switch ... did not work. Tried to run PC and miner to switch and use wireless internet connect on PC. No dice. Couldn't see the miner.

Tried to use a second router and bridge the primary to it then connect the PC and miner to the slave .... did not work, still could not see miner.

It's been frustrating, and I thought I could accomplish this.

Miner is second hand. The guy I got it from set the IP address to 192.168.1.98 ... my (primary) wireless router is 192.168.1.1

Is my best bet having the cable co./ISP out to drop me a hard line into my home office so I can move my router in there as well?
Try hardwiring the miner into your primary router to see if it'll run.  If it does, then it's just a matter of setting up your internal network properly.

I would agree try getting it to work with primary.  That way you don't have to have all the extra things between you and the internet.

You could always connect directly to miner from computer and change it's IP to work with primary to make it easy. (Be very careful when changing IP if done wrong you might not be able to access it)
