Its working software that people find useful and is growing. It's definatly speculation with the coin but this is a real working thing not a scam. Dig in and find out if you like the projects, if you believe in them then the coin can be a good thing.

People thought ethereum was a scam... Its just about picking the right projects really. Make sure theres a working product/tokenomics i think. Not something that is easy to build (like a landing page/marketing is not a product at all).
