... and back to the original topic ... There is a new Antminer S7 firmware update available on bitmain website , dated to 2016/May/11 "S7-20160511-700M-2fan-4320.tar"
and .. Yes i updated one of the S7 i have , the main reason for the update , that miner is randomly stopped hashing sometimes 3-4 times a day in the past week , and the web interface become unavailable. After unplugged from the wall and plugged back its worked again for a couple of hours ... Flashed the newest firmware yesterday , so fair no hashing problem ... next few days will tell for sure its really helped or not ... if not , then its time for a new Antminer S7 Data circuit board Smiley

Anyone can download the newest firmware from here for S7:
https://www.bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720160511022802617GoPmQhNb06CF

And NO im NOT working for BITMAIN !!!!
Ohh , and i forget i need to prove all my words with screen shoots ... Too many Unbeliever here Smiley

If you referring me as a "that guy" then i can tell you the answer Wink .. The sample time for each hashrate reading was around 30 minutes each . Im used a Kill A Watt device to measure the actual watts ... That device its not the best option for this Smiley but can give us some info Smiley Also the hashrate reading is from the antiner S7 " Miner Status" page , the reading on the pool side is always a little bit better in my case ...
I have another miner running on 731 for more than 10 days with 0.0093 average HW error and 4.900TH/s average hashrate reading from the Miner Status page , but the average daily hashrate reading on the pool side is 4.939TH/s

Curmudgeonly hardware guy
I wonder what how long the sample time was on that guy's hashrate readings. The theoretical max average hashrate for 718MHz on 135-chip S7 is a shade under 4.85GH.

I noticed it the day it came out. I updated all of my miners with no problem. I can't tell a difference so I'm not sure what changed.

Electrical engineer. Mining since 2014.
I had little problems with miner status page being blank and no hashing after changing settings for 2x Antminer S7, batch 9.
Cgminer settings were ok.
So I tried this very firmware, and no problemo.
Hashing again as usual and now changing pool settings etc. don't cause any troubles  Smiley

On the main bitmain thread their own man, @Bitmain Warranty, says that you should NOT update your FW IF your miner is working fine.
Take the "hint" from the source and avoid a chance of trouble (bricking the controller), as phil said as well.

that aside, i had to upgrade two machines that were on Oct 23 version to Dec 11 FW version because they stopped hashing due to a known bug (connect to IP 14.14....). Sep 15 FW machines are still OK.

I'm wondering why don't Bitmain announce this FW and post here a changelog...

No don't touch it.  I once was young with bitmain and thought the same... but once I bricked a S3.  It changed my entire thoughts of firmware.  If your bitmain gear is working and there is not a hug issue (like one S3 reset button did not work... ok that is big).   But most do nothing for you.  And you risk you gear when it's already working.

Best case you get almost nothing changed.  Worst case you have a IO board with  bad flash you either have to get it fixed via serial to usb (going to be a pain) or buy a new iobaord flashed from bitmain, and have downtime.

Don't update .... just dont this is for others. Since you did it already.... but I don't believe the running 4.8 to 4.9 with 15 watts.  You will have to provide a lot as others mentioned.  You would have the best batch 9 if running default freq on the forum.   I don't see getting that with default freq from working with others.

On:
F)  Bitmaintech has issued a lot of   bad firmware updates
So how do you know the original firmware was not one of those ??

You know as your miner is working decently to spec.  You get a bad firmware update it BRICKS your unit.  Not going back to old firmware... you own a brick.  Until you do a lot more to fix.

I just shoot one screen shot for you a few minutes ago                                           Strike back 3

D) No mention in your first post that you did it to a new model 135 chip              strike 4
my mistake , its from batch 9 , but FW update for all S7 with 700 def fq/2fan           Strike back 4
just read the firmware name  Grin

E) S-7's have had hijack issues  so this could be a new way to hijack your s-7      strike 5
monitoring 24/7 , none of my S7 have this isse ... Im a it tech person  Wink                 Strike back 5

Upside : Antminer S7 (4.73Th/s) running stabil on 718 with 0.002 error rate , hashing 4.9TH/s avrg temp is under 62 , Fan on 60% , before the firmware upgrade ( S7-20160305-700M-2fan.tar ) the same miner was not running great on 718 .. it was hashing 4.8TH/s avrg but with 0.04 sometimes 0.1 error rate ,lot of re ejected shares , temp was under 62 , fan is set to 60% ...

Downside : with 718 stabil , low error rate , 4.9TH/s avrg , is pulling 15 watts more from the wall Smiley

no documentation = not true

you could simply be a bitmaintech agent  getting   people to load a bad firmware.

I hold zip against you.  And would prefer to think you tell the truth.

But
A) Newbie                                                                                                       strike 1

Now all kidding aside  7 bad points above.

If it does what you say it is worth it

to upgrade  the  s-7 as a 4.9th      with  0.0002 errors is much better then a  4.8th with 0.0400 errors

So to those that know what they are doing     weigh the downside against the so called gain and test for us.

We  would love to see  some long term trusted people showing this firmware works on batch 9-16  and improves numbers.

keep updating that firmware until you brick your gear.  Grin Grin Grin

Just saying what is the upside to the update?  None that anyone can show.

What is the downside you brick the controller.

Would suggest not to update as there are some that has bad experienced that their miner becomes a brick.

As they say Don't try to fix something thats not broken babe <3  Tongue
