Honestly, I prefer the old bitcoin logo to the new bitcoin logo, if the old bitcoin logo sees the logo, people will already understand that the symbol is bitcoin.

Nice design, maybe it will look good again if you lower the color gradation, I think it's too bright for the bitcoin logo and add like a picture of connections like bitcoin's signature. I'm sure it will look even better.

Can't really pick a favourite at this time, but I do like "Vires in Numeris". That's already used in Casascius coins and I like it.

Yes, but that means "Strengths in Numbers" (plural).

How do you say "Screw the Banks" in Latin?

Literally, "Copula argentarias", but I fear Caesar wouldn't understand...

I take it you haven't seen "Spartacus" on Starz. Every other word is "copula."  Wink

Strength in Numbers is a great slogan for Bitcoin.  The double meaning absolutely captures the spirit of Bitcoin for me.

I love this as well. Simply captures the true spirit of bitcoin which imo is to give economic power back to the hands of the people and away from banks and gov.

2) Coins usually have reeded or milled edge. This one looks like a gilded hockey puck Smiley

Indeed it does. Oh well, it's free! Take it or leave it. :-) Besides, aren't we re-defining the concept of a coin anyway? It's just fancy eye candy. Enjoy!

However, I think the whole "In xxx we trust" is a bad idea from a PR perspective

Agreed. It also makes it seem too American.

bytepimp, since everyone else is making requests, can I make one more:

Simply replace the motto with 'Bitcoin' in exactly the same size and font as where it says Bitcoin on the top half.

Yes of course you may. I have no personal attachment to any "phrase" or symbols used on the coin design. I'm happy to help the cause. Keep the suggestions coming.

For a non-religious motto, how about a variation of "E Pluribus Unum" (Out of Many, One)? The English translation could be something like "Out of Many, Money" (which has a nice ring to it I think). I'm no Latin expert, but Google Translate tells me that "E Pluribus Pecunia" translates to English as "Out of Many, the Money."

EDIT: More playing with Google Translate suggests that "E Pluribus Pecuniam" may be more accurate.

Personally, I think that "In math we trust" would be better than "In cryptography we trust", since more people would understand that.

However, I think the whole "In xxx we trust" is a bad idea from a PR perspective, since whatever the xxx, it is obviously replacing "God".  That will leave a bad taste in the mouths of very many people.  Many fundamentalists would probably end up swearing off bitcoin for no other reason.

There was actually a discussion about creating a bitcoin motto a while back in a very similar thread to this one:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=6455.20

My favorite suggestion from that thread is:

@kiba: Skull88's logo does represent the cryptographic aspect of bitcoins better, but mine focuses more on the distribution of the block chain from the network of computers running the Bitcoin program. I think both aspects are equally essential to the Bitcoin currency, as encoding the data allows for anonymity and deters hackers, but distribution is what actually allows Bitcoins to flow and be used as currency. I could have copied his idea, but I wanted to try my own.

@epii:Err, I think I may have carelessly chose the title of the thread. When I say "New bitcoin logo", I meant "here's another design for a bitcoin". Sorry if it seemed like I was implying my design was better than anyone else's; that wasn't my intention. As Freemoney said, more is better. If you like another logo more, then by all means use that one. I just want to expand the choices people have. I don't think my design will replace the official logo, but just consider it free fanart for the community.  Wink

If there is a mod reading this, could you change the thread title to "Another Bitcoin design" please?

Not to be the first wet blanket (because I think it's really great that people are submitting ideas, and I appreciate your skillful work) but I think it's a bit garish compared to the current logo.  I think it would look better as an actual coin than as a logo.  The current logo has the sort of SVG-chic simplicity that seems to be in vogue in the tech industry right now, especially among open-source projects.

Eh, we all have different tastes. I honestly kinda like its baroque quality. I don't think we should rush to replace our current logo with it, but it is nice. We'll see which one persists.
