Meta has become Meritland, at least for the short term, so I wouldn't complain if this came to be, but I doubt it'll happen. Hopefully like Cod said, this just passes like it did when the trust system was implemented.

Merit is the new cool kid with rich parents at school. Very interesting topic at the moment, and hard to become his friend if you are not one of the cool ones.
But this particular fellow was a student needed to get ridd of bullys.
Kinda brutal to compare the shitposters with bullys yes, but the way this forum was being ruined il stick with it.

After some time the interest will be reduced in this new kid, but hopefully it results in success for the forum spam.

Agree! Furthermore, I think Meta board has also become a cemetery (burrial-land) of spammers and account farmers. As we can see, lots of account farmers have been found and, of course, eliminated by moderators. In addition, there are lots of users who naively tried complaining, crying about merit system in Meta board. What did they get? Being put into Ignore list of prestigious members like Jet Cash. Congratulations those ones!

It will die down very quickly, as people become used it.
No point in creating a child board in the interim.

Exactly! Overtime, users will have to accept the fact that merit system will be here. They will have to adapt with merit system by changing their threads' contents to be more constructive. Less threads/ topics which cry and moan about merit system in the future, I believe it.

Whether or not they accept it isn't really the issue.  It's a part of the forum, and a cool part of the forum that is heavily discussed.  The only real argument I could see against it is that it could open a can of worms where users also want a trust child board to discuss trust issues and another child board for activity, etc.  Perhaps that would be too many boards, and then there'd be nothing left to post about in meta.

So why not make a child board for trust system, merit,activity,etc... and take all of those topics from meta to that one. Hitting 3 birds with one stone. Meta would then remain solely for user problems and discussion.

I still think Merit is a cool enough part of this forum to warrant it's own child board in the Meta section.  Cool

I agree 100% that Merit should have its own child board.  I think Merit is one of the most important elements in Bitcointalk right now.  It is a make or break for those who wanted to join Signature Campaign.  I for one, haven't join any signature campaign ever since I became a Junior member because the stakes for a Junior member are not commensurate with the amount of work needed to be done in order to earn the stakes.  Some ICOs require between 10-20 quality posts a week for a Signature campaign and that's a lot of work.  In addition, some if not most of ICOs now only allow the rank of Member above in order to be eligible for participation in the Signature Campaign.

I know of a few people who signed up around the same time as me, during the month in which Merit system was introduced.  They've been Junior members ever since.  Some have spend countless number of hours (trying to produce) high quality posts in various section of the forum but to no avail.  Only a few 'good samaritan' members who are kind enough to give out sMerit.  Most are hoarding them, or are not even aware that sMerit can and should be handed out.  I mean there is no incentives for higher rank members to hand out sMerits right?

What's more disturbing is that during my conversation with other members some think that members only give away sMerits to the people they know, which is not what the system is intended.  I know that the system is not perfect.  Perhaps creators or originators of this system should come out with "incentives" in order to encourage higher rank members with lots of Merit to award lower rank members who needed them most, otherwise at some point lower rank members who couldn't move up in the rank would be discouraged, and perhaps abandon the board altogether.

Some say "newbies" are the new currencies on bitcointalk.  They are "buyers" and "consumers" of information.  The higher rank members on the other hand are "sellers" of information.  At the end, without buyers, there will be no one to buy.

Therefore, I don't think we need a new child board which specifically created for merit system.
I remember that during the first month after launch of merit system, there were dozen of topics about this one and related issues. For now, looking at Meta, Begginers & help boards, I saw less topics about merit system. It is good news.

I think that new child board for merit talk would greatly facilitate Meta topic. There are a lot of questions about merits. I also thought that they would stop eventually. But as time shows, people do not cease to be interested in and discuss the new system. I think, it would be better to allow them do it in a specially selected topic.
I think this is a good idea to create a new child board for merit talk, as I see daily posts about merit system. Meta section are already having a lot of topics about people asking about the merits. I think it will be more better if theymos create a new board about that or to just create only one topic, which we can discuss there everything about this system, we don't need to make the meta full with these threads.

"Trust" used to be the talk of the town when it was first released.

Now it's merit  - but this too shall pass.

Smiley
There was more common questions on Meta - activity, ranks, how to upload avatar and etc. Merit is just another thing which will remain popular here for long. But now I think that there are less threads about Merit than it was few weeks ago. 2 months after introdution of Merit system now I don't think that we need separate board dedicated to Merit.

Merit is the issue for the newbies and small rank people looking for rank. So they just come here and creating the query for asking this as a query here. Some people take the merit as a discussion for merit and trust farming in this forum.

I do not why people are missing the read the thread created by Theymos. Simply making the tons of threads here and making dumpyard.

All that talk on merit will pass, there will probably be a few posts here and there about it, like everything else, but I don't really think that the child board is needed, you can already see that the merit posts have reduced in numbers. Tho maybe a child board for merit abusers would probably be good.

In my opinion, there's no need to make a childborad for merit discussions. Sorry to say but I think that would be a bad idea. I know that your intentions are good that's why you suggest this one but don't you think that this will cause more trouble. Imagine, if Theymos approve your suggestion (but I'm sure he wouldn't) that chilboard will only fill with threads discussing what merit is all about, the advantages and disadvantages of it, and pros and cons in this system; in short, it will only have a limited scope of discussion which may results to duplicate topics and spams.

I don't know either why Meta section is now full of merit talks even though there are already existing threads about it, maybe that's because of the newbies who don't like to have a deep research and prefer spoon-feeding (but i'm not pertaining to all). Instead of making a childboard for this, much better if Theymos will now delete the upcoming threads about merit system which have the same thought as the previous one.

There are so many threads about Merit System that has been made these days, and we can't just let them post the same topic about merits over and over again because it is already spamming. That's why I also agreed to the OP that a child board for Merit talks should be implemented.
As we can see , a lot of threads about Merit has been made and I'm sure that there are still lot more threads with "Merit" as Topic will still be created in future as Newbies began to aboard. Threads with this topic also began to spread everywhere in the forum. We can see some merit talks in Bitcoin discussions and here in meta section because newbies don't know where to ask or post such a question about Merits.
I highly recommend that a child board or even a single THREAD with all information about merit system should be created. And in this thread (if not a child board) they are permitted to ask anything about Merit System as long as they didn't asked the question already (to avoid asking questions over and over again).

Maybe it is good in a way that the threads here in Meta that talks about merit system will keep organize in the new child board. Because it seems like the important threads are buried by merit talk. I agree with your suggestion.

Honestly, even if Theymos did add new Child Board for Merit talk, it's gonna be filled with pointless Merit "idea" and whining about Merit.
In just a few weeks it's gonna turn to a new Bitcoin Discussion Section Roll Eyes
I'm fine with it being posted here rather than one dedicated section filled with spams.

Hello my  friends, here I come to you to read about merit. And I think in what head was born such a stupid idea? Shocked

It is not a possibility that a separate board is created for the sole purpose of merit discussion as that would just be of no point because this thread is all about learning about BITCOIN and other cryptocurrencies and if there's a separate board created for discussing various features of this forum while there exists the meta board already, it would be inappropriate. Maybe a list of FAQ about merit system or about all the FAQ about the questions in meta thread collectively should be made and be updated on a monthly or weekly basis so as to decrease the overwhelmed merit talks.

These threads asking about the merit system will soon cool off eventually, but they'll surely quickly be replaced with dozens of people essentially begging for merit by posting their ten posts to try become a merit source.

It will die but there is no harm in implementing it for the time being, because meta section is already flooded by this discussion, so imagine where it will go in the next few days.

This is likely due to the buzz surrounding it. This section is usually full of a lot of duplicate threads about hacked accounts/trust/activity, merit will be no different.
I suggested something to help this, and it looks like it's being implemented somewhat.
