Windows has to to detect each graphics card when you boot. You could either plug all your GPUs into separate monitors or our make a dummy plug: http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=16816.0

The dummy plug is really really easy to make and costs less then $5.

I suggest using the operating system you're familiar with first. Make sure you keep it updated with the latest software and patches so you don't get hacked.

windows also requires a monitor to be connected to each card.  Linux (ubuntu 11.04) does not have this problem.

general consensus is that Windows is easier to overclock on, but linux gives slightly higher hash rates. I would personally recommend going with whatever you feel most comfortable with. Also whether you have a Windows license (and whether you care) factors into these calculations.

Good luck.

Just bought a new computer with no os and have a 5750 and 5570 radeon card. I was strictly going to use this for mining. Can i run both under windows and guiminer?  Also would it work better under linux.  Thanks.
