What's more important is the lack of clarity on how it solves the Byzantine Generals Problem.

It certainly has the potential to be huge, if it doesn't rush it and can offer a true multicurrency wallet, wow, great stuff, send X currency, receive and convert to X currency and so on.

It certainly has the major backers in the field.

I got the meaning like that they are invented to be a useful standard for financial transaction which make independent system interconnected with each other. And as the standard grow complete,  kinds of platform can works together.

it's not about the 'digital currency'. it's about the platform. stellar/ripple have really good tech, and is really useful for moving value on the internet.  here's a primer:  https://ripple.com/ripple_primer.pdf

both ripple and stellar (a ripple fork) is NOT about its built in currency. having only a small amount of that, like 100 XRP/STR is enough for an average user to last him a life time of transactions in using those platforms.

“We are living in a world of closed, un-interoperable networks,” says Patrick Collision, one of Stripe’s co-founders, referring to the many credit card networks that now move money across the net. “Whether it’s bitcoin or Stellar or some other technology, it’s really important—and, I hope inevitable—that something comes along and unifies them.”
