I sell stuff online, which means I have to use PayPal & Ebay.

Many big companies treat their customers like shit. Just ignore them, and use something else. Why don't you set up a website to advertise your stuff, then use facebook and twitter as well, advertise on boards that talk about the kind of stuff you sell.

Put your money where your mouth is, if enough people do that, that is the only way we can achieve change.

Bitcoin is superior to the Paypal model and existing banks. So do all you can to prompte Bitcoin and make it grow.

The reason Paypal and similar companies treat you like shit, is because they can get away with it. Out of principle you should stop using them.

This is ridiculous, much like not processing certain donations due to political pressure. Bitcoin will definitely make them re-think their practices when it's big enough.

Bitcoin will do to money what filesharing and the internet did to media, that is make them work reasonably well with some new and unexpected problems but we'll all agree that things are better.

Disgusting from PayPal. I knew they could stoop pretty low but I did not realise they could stoop that low. What I don't understand is why they did not carry on with the method you was using which was paying it if you didn't have the available funds in PayPal when you saw it? Just goes to show most of the time PayPal are in it mostly for themselves and couldn't care less what problems they cause for others.

What does this have to do with "Bitcoin Discussion"? This is a story about paypal.

Anyways to add to their disgusting behavior, I was just scammed by a brand new user on ebay. The guy made an account, purchased my item same day, filed a chargeback through his credit card (not ebay/paypal) once item was received, his bank reversed the money from paypal, so paypal passed it on to me. The dispute wasn't done through ebay or paypal's built in resolution center, so I had no say in the matter with his bank. I provided proof to paypal that the item was shipped and safely delivered, but it didn't matter because chargeback was through his credit card.

All of these sites kind went overboard in the last year and I think it stems from the last Euro trade talks in October of last year.
The banks are also getting more strict and it seems to all stem to the internet and bitcoin being a threat to these groups.

Wish I could recall something the banks recently started doing...Oh it was giving up information about Americans in Canada
that could be potentially hiding money. But the new rule screws Canadians as well, details are missing from my brain at the moment.
Our medical information is also handed over to the Americans for border security reasons.

I dislike Paypal too. Have you considered CryptoThrift? It's getting to the point where most serious sellers just want to dump Paypal and try something else.

Paypal has been doing this for at least a year if not longer and while dangerous can sometimes be a useful feature. If I buy something with paypal and my balance doesn't cover it they will automatically take the difference from my checking account at no charge. So your bank acts like a paypal overdraft.

allowing others access to your fund without asking you is not good, in the UK we have system that sets up 'direct debits' to allow automation. but we can still cancel this request at anytime. blindingly letting others take funds at will should not be considered a feature. consent should always be given, even if its consent many months prior to allow access at will.

the UK government proposes to soon, without a court order allow the UK tax office to at will and without even being pre-handed the bank details. to seek out peoples accounts and take funds out to cover tax. which is getting alot of attention and a lot of people donot want non-consent access to accounts

What do you mean bank account?

Don't you have to authorize a transfer to be sent from your bank account?

Unless you mean your old banks credit card/visa?

Because they can not do that either unless an invoice is issued to you and you accept to make the payment.

This doesn't make sense Huh

now you know why bitcoin is better

no one can find your bank account, whether from old data, credit checks or other methods..  to then simply take money out at their whim

I sell stuff online, which means I have to use PayPal & Ebay.

In the past, Ebay would charge me a fee at the end of the month and charge my PayPal account. Sometimes there wouldn't be enough money in PayPal, so I would just pay the Ebay invoice with a debit card the next time I logged in and saw it.

For the first time ever, I saw a negative balance in my PayPal account. PayPal also showed that it was processing an echeck, something that I have never seen before either.

Anyway, I set up a small transfer from my bank to PayPal to cover the amount.

It was this morning that I discovered that PayPal had directly charged an old bank account for the "overdraft" from ebay. I thought 'strange, I never enabled a backup payment method for PayPal, maybe I turned something on by accident'.

So I went into settings, looked for the backup payment method settings...and lo and behold...they are not listed anywhere anymore.

I did see that the old bank account (I stopped using that bank since they are anti-bitcoin) was listed as my main account.

So basically PayPal is now automatically using linked bank accounts as a backup payment method (probably in one of their latest user agreement contracts).

I am not upset about the money, I didn't actually lose any. I am disgusted by this new policy of PayPal though.

I will be so happy when Bitcoin is the major world money, all payments online are made with crypto and nobody can just arbitrarily grab your money from some linked account. Good riddance to old technology.
