I noticed today, cool thing indeed. But why only on mobile? I use the comp at the most of times for commenting. Agree, big screen is more useful and comfortable for eyes, so why to not move it on the wide screen as well?! Smiley
Because you can actually hover the time label on the PC, so it's useless.

The only reason this exists on mobile is that you couldn't ever see it without having to check the page source code.

I assume it's 10 minutes.

are all my edits within the first 10 minutes also logged?

No, edits in the grace period are not logged.

Tried to edit the comment on page 3... And it appeared. The Time Lapse is 25minutes after the original post  created before it appears.
I guess 25 minutes is way too long, base on last edited post of mine it appears as early as 14 minutes or so, and the edited date shows.

I  Think this calls for additional suggestion to theymos, its way better if it will appear after the post was edited. And doesnt have any time lapses. As for I have done earlier the edits that I've made inside the time lapse wasnt counted. Means it will only appeared edited when the users make a change on his post after the 15 minutes gap or so on.
Just like what I have done on my post :

I edited this but it doesnt appeared to be one.

This is my edited post:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.49152883

I just made an edit on it after I post it because of mispelled acroos and I changed it to "across"

And the time now is: (just look on the time that I posted this) I tried to refresh the page and even closed my browser and open it again. But nothing shows off.

I just edited my post above and it works https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.49153066

Try to edit it now and let's see what happens.

All the edits in the first 5 mints are not recorded (at least for us, maybe for the mods they are) so no matter how long you gonna wait if the edit was not saved after the cool down time, it won't be shown, .. ever!

I guess there is a minimum minutes when the "Last edited" shows, something 10-20 minutes or so after you made the post.

Yes, correct. If I remember correctly LoyceV tested the actual cool down time and it was about 5-7 min I don't remember the actual numbers.

Let's see about that, but lately its working after you edit it.

As we said before, you need to wait at least 5 min for the cool down time and then the edit indication will appear.

If you post and then edit the post withing 5 min. there is no "edit" indication. It's like a 5 min cool down time before it starts recording the edits.

I don't know why you'd want a list of everu edit either.
Posted and last edited suit just fine for me.

Otherwise we'll become GitHub Grin.

Me, personally have no use for the edit history, but tried to clarify and improve what cabalism13 was suggesting.
I don't really see any use of it at all. No need to put more load on the servers, we already gave enough Wink

Hell yeah, it's really nice to have and see both not only the Last Edited Smiley
And Now, none of the full time spam editors can make their escape out of their shitloads to avoid being red tagged and banned. This works really especially on those who have committed plagiarism on last years.

I guess you are talking about edit history with a list with all the previous edits. It's better to have them as a link next to the last edited and opening in a pop-up window because the list can be quite long.
For example my Comprehensive guide to Bitcointalk. has been edited many-many times and the list will be quite long. Imagine if those 30-40 edits listed, it will look like the Merit & new rank requirements thread with all those received merit.

But I think its quite alright if we just have the last one, for I have seen some user talk about the post getting seen before ot was edited.
Or am I just mistaken the deleted posts can still be retrieved? Something like that...

I added it for mobile devices only using CSS media queries, but it seems to only work on the very newest browsers.

Ask theymos to add a nice little button in php. Grin

This is actually a good idea, of course if he can find some time for it. I'm sure I'm not the only one using the forum from a mobile device and this issue will bother other people to, so until we wait for the new forum software this can be a good solution.

New forum software? It wouldn't surprise me if they've stopped trying to develop it or if it's just theymos on his own stuff this point.

I generally access the forum on my phone quite a bit it would be nice to see if this was added but I'm not sure how much I'd use it. Maybe even not a button but something that says.

So the only option I found til now is playing with the source code :
Code:

Searching for class="edited" shows all the edited comments in the page.

This is the only * method working without additional apps on my Android phone with Chrome mobile browser.

Tried holding+sliding, tapping with 2 fingers, the Desktop mode...
*- see below Cheesy
On Android:

Go to Settings -> Accesibility. Turn Select to Speak ON. A new icon will appear in bottom right corner of the screen:

Tap the Jesus, then select the dotted date (just the first few letters should be enough) and it will read "Last edit...". And I mean IT WILL LITERALLY READ IT ALOUD, HOW COOL IS THAT?  Grin

Edit: as bL4nkcode mentioned below, there might be variations in how these settings work, perhaps depending on Android version / vendor etc. The above is from Lenovo 8.0. Under Accessibility you can also set up a shortcut so that holding volume buttons for 3 seconds turns this on/off.

This actually did work. I guess this is the easiest way til now.Smiley
If you have Huawei the Jesus version is called Select-to-speak.

Ah, okay my bad, it works but it will give you a headache first to find the exact thing using mobile, and you have to use the Find in page to do it, and not all people loves to see the source code since it's too complicated.

Didn't know something like that, Pretty cool. But the thing is, after I enable that Select To Speak, it doesn't read and talk about the last edited, hence it only just read the date when the post was created.

I was wrong. It really is reading when it was last edited. (Just Tried to edit my post and used that Jesus thing). And this proves that you can also count on Jesus even on android problems Cheesy

If you really want to know when the post was edited, I recommend to open the page's source code, it is safer and easier.:
Obviously, you can't do that in mobile mode, there's even no existing browser in mobile that can view the site's source code as well.

Can you change the view on your mobile from App mode to Desktop Mode ?

This should be work to see it ! But dont know exactly bro .

Yes you can, of you're currently using chrome app then you you should be able to switvh on desktop mode.

On the upper right side, you will see the Three Dots, Click it and a Drop Down Menu will show up, Drag down and you will see Desktop Site Checkbox.
But it still not showing, coz the forum looks the same whether you use a mobile device in desktop mode or not and in desktop devices.

The hover thing will not appear in mobile since it's only a title attribute and it has default function as tooltip same as hover. If theymos will do some jquery/css design modifications then it will show in mobile as well which I guess he will not.

Hover is the same thing as mouse_over event.

There are some apps that allow you to do so, which I don't recommend (obviously for security reasons).

If you really want to know when the post was edited, I recommend to open the page's source code, it is safer and easier.

Probably not. AFAIK, there is no way to "hover" the text, which is what you need to do to see it.

My hover on touchscreens, and it seems by default, is to press, hold and swipe slightly so as to not be inferred as a tap but a hover. It’s a bit advanced though.

Doesn’t work every time either, enjoy!
I can't manage to do this on my iPhone (IOS 12).

What is your phone? Android or IOS?

It works on my iPad. I haven’t tried it on my android phone yet...

Edited: for test

The old post below this line

Nowadays more and more people are accessing the forum trough mobile devices but the site has no mobile version yet and some features are inaccessible, like the "Last edit" of a post.
There are some ways to get that info like looking through the source code, installing 3rd party software, or calling Jesus* but all those are really inconvenient.

So our short request is to add the "Last edit" info as a text instead of a rollover.

Something like this:
