It'll be too difficult to moderate. Just think about it. Some threads that are reported are left unhandled because a moderator cannot determine whether or not it is deemed necessary to move/lock/delete a thread. When it comes to merit abuse there is a lot more work involved as is there a greater degree of subjectiveness. Personally I don't think the moderators have enough time to dig through posts to determine whether or not that merit post was an abused use of the system.

It does not ease the work.

It transfers the work from a decentralized system (the readers who investigate) to a centralized one.

But, is not centralized yet? I mean: only a few members can ban an account. And, also, this is not centralized, since it works the same way than the "report to moderator" button in a topic. Mods have the last word in this case.

Also, the actual way is to make a big thread (difficult to follow and read) in which the possible merit abuse is shown, that's why I consider it to "ease" the way.
But, again, this is just an idea. I don't need to be right, just to create a debate and to seek the best way of stopping the farmers.

Anyway, the merit starvation maybe will be enough for now.
Lets just wait more time for what we think about abusing merit. Drought of merit and topic selections that can be a great help in the new software. Admin are just gathering ideas specially after the merit system was introduce.

if the "Report Merit abuse button" can be applied whether only report the account without being able to analyze the merit received/sent.

still, indirectly there is "a human" factor that must re-check whether the reported (account) true / not.

Given the number of farming accounts we have in here, I think this is going to be really useful to the forum system.
What I suggest is to implement a button in each profile in which you can report to mods a possible merit abuse activity, because:
1.- It will ease the work and it will be easier to detect farming alts.

It does not ease the work.

It transfers the work from a decentralized system (the readers who investigate) to a centralized one.

dogs are cute.
I disagree:
1. It actually makes the whole process harder (you have to look for similar types of threads, instead of having those reports in a single thread).
2. It clutters the board.
1. Merit abuses aren't handled by mods as their jobs, they are handled by DT members who may or may not be mods.. But nevertheless I get your point.
2. Cluttering the board actually doesn't matter anymore. It's a forum and threads are supposed to be created everyday. Spam exists all over the internet and one person/group alone can't do anything about it.

3.- It will be under moderation, for not all the accusations related to merit are true.
These (regardless of the fact that there's a different approach, when it comes to sources):

Merit isn't moderated. So there is no point in adding this.
19. Possible (or real) scams and Trust ratings are not moderated (to prevent moderation abuse).

It is actually better that new threads are being created,so that it is more easier to handle things.

About cleaning the meta section, we could do this by creating a megathread and making everybody only post their reports there.
Killyou72 did that,it is not working out that well. New threads are anyhow being created. It is actually better that new threads are being created,so that it is more easier to handle things.

Well, just an idea. Share your thoughts.
