I'm still new on the forum but I think that the merit thing is still a good Idia...its just like a job if u contributed u move up th work ladder and if u put in the work on the forum with good post u can earn merit ..

.from what I understand witch I could b wrong if u buy a copper membership u bypass having to earn the first merit? Is that wright or wrong just a question

You do not bypass having to gain the first merit. The member rank is different from the copper membership. Copper membership allows you many of the benefits, such as posting images but it is a separate thing. If you want to achieve Full Member for example you'll still need all 100 merits.

More income isn't needed right now
May be you can assign more moderator/staff for forum by that fund (from new membership).

Hopefully the automatic recovery tool will be ready by the end of the year though.
It will better if implement automatic recovery. Really it is more important from others implementation.

More donator ranks have been suggested numerous times by various people including me.

More income isn't needed right now

As I've said before, you could always give it to charity or use it to fund worthwhile developments that benefit the community or crypto. Out of interest, does the forum hold any fiat reserves?

and any possible benefits of an additional membership tier seem to me like they would be too superfluous.

I don't think they would. I think there's lots of benefits to offering them both for users, the forum and the general community. It would pretty much kill the account sales/farming/scamming market firstly. It's also quite difficult to get merit so I think people should be able to bypass it via a sufficient payment. They're only going to buy an account or the merit anyway. Additional perks like being able to change your username, have a custom title, or image banner in their signature would also be big draws for people. I think you'd be surprised by how many people would purchase a premium membership, especially if it comes with some decent perks.

Maybe I'll do it at some future point, when more income is needed and/or I have some decent ideas for things that really should be payment-gated.

The way bitcoin is going it probably won't be too long  Grin. I'm sure the community could brainstorm some suggested perks they'd like to see or that they'd pay for.

P.S. Why do so many people read copper member as cooper member? Huh

Grin. The misspellings of various things on this forum have cracked me up over the years. Cooper Member, Cupper Member, me being accused of being a rapper and so on.

Maybe theymos could use this money in the forum, in some especific area like account recovery or something like that
For account recovery, theymos said if it was possible to maintain, he would throw $100k instantly for that.

For 100k I'll sit on the forum and recover them all day every day  Grin. Problem solved  Cheesy. Hopefully the automatic recovery tool will be ready by the end of the year though.

For account recovery, theymos said if it was possible to maintain, he would throw $100k instantly for that. Sorry, I could not link that but that's what he said. Therefore, I don't think theymos will introduce such system. By the way, theymos is developing an automation system for account recovery, afaik.
There's no need for any fee, and a fee probably wouldn't be appropriate unless absolutely necessary. Money is not a problem. If I could throw $100k at the problem and make it go away, I would do so.
Edit-
oh! theymos, you are here already.

sometimes, cupper too.

Don't worry about supporting the forum financially. The most helpful thing anyone can do is to just be a good member of the community by eg. helping newbies, patrolling for spam, or writing good posts.

A cooper is a person who is trained to put steel bands around beer barrels. We may have some members here who deserve to be banded with steel, but I hope we don't have any beer barrels. Smiley

Actually a cooper is any person trained to make barrels, but my definition gave more scope for frivolous comments.

A copper in British slang is a policeman, and it is the short form of " a man who cops (captures) thieves and miscreants"

And I believe they deserve something from forum. They contribute themselves for forum, no doubts about it. If theymos add new paid membership then people will try to skip merit system.

The idea is not to get rewarded by the forum, but to reward the forum Wink

Few time I ago I was thinking about buying a cooper membership, just to support the forum.
I don't see any benefits from copper member who already above member rank. As well as you are in good position and well reputed, So I don't think you need it. I bought copper membership once I was newbie and I was want to post image as evidence for scam ICO's. But still I didn't remove it.

To be honest I don't think we need more membership lately. I am wondering if any additional title for who have more than 2000 merit. And I believe they deserve something from forum. They contribute themselves for forum, no doubts about it. If theymos add new paid membership then people will try to skip merit system.

Few time I ago I was thinking about buying a cooper membership, just to support the forum. The value is very small compared to what I have already earned here and will in the future (probably, if new campaings show up).

However, Coopper Membership is a rank already used by people who wants to post images for their ICO and new projects, which is not the case for me.
Last time I checked, to become a Donator the price was 50 BTC which is totally beyond my budged..

I was thinking that a new rank should be created for a different kind of user, mostly veterans of the forum who want to support it, and a different title. Such as ''bronze membership'', or '' crypto enthusiast'', '' forum supporter'', whatever...

maybe add some kind of benefit to it, such as a faster account recovery in case of hack? Or even a ''closed board'', such as Ivory Tower, that would be spam free.

I think lot of people would support it.
