I didnt see an introductions section or a new members section so i figured meta would have to do.

I'm new here, obviously. New to bitcoin, and just getting started learning.

Was hoping someone could give me the short version about this bitcoin stuff. I tried browsing the forums but everything seems to be just one garbled mess of randomness and to be honest its a bit painful to read anything useful as far as discussion goes as most of the things that would be useful have 20+ pages of posts filled with little to no relevant info and its painful to try and sort through.

So how's about it. Someone want to give me the short version on things i should know just starting out?

Also dont forget read this: bitcoin.org/en/faq
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf
if you want to know about bitcoin news/trend, you can go to surfing here: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/ http://www.coindesk.com/ http://cointelegraph.com/
you can surfing here for more review or discuss, also you can earn some btc here Cheesy

Welcome to the bitcoin world and bitcointalk.

IMHO, http://www.coindesk.com/information/ gives best introduction for newbies. It is easy to read and covers all aspects.
You don't need to read the pages for mining and/or altcoins if you are not planning to buying an ASIC or some altcoins.
There is also a glossary that you may find useful later.

Here's a few articles that'll help get you started.

http://www.coindesk.com/bitcoin-explained-five-year-old/
http://profit.ndtv.com/news/your-money/article-bitcoin-explained-in-laymans-terms-376029
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-12-02/bitcoins-the-digital-currency-explained/5119034

I don't think you should try particularly hard to learn about it, if you're genuinely interested you'll soak up information at your own pace just by browsing and posting on the forums. Anyways welcome to Bitcoin  Smiley

This is what I read when I started with Bitcoin : https://bitcoin.org/en/getting-started
It's short and nicely explains everything.
