I have no dog in this fight and truly don't care to, but those pics are scathing!! As someone who appreciates art this is STEALING in my opinion! I have bought a few things from LYNX and have not been disappointed, but I will be hesitant in the future. .....and to be honest Frank, saying "I clearly state this is from HODL Crypto" is a BS cop out!! Shame on you for not doing research on the art your company sells. I'm glad I did not buy any of the blatant rip offs. Taking peoples BTC/USD for another artists work, seriously, shame on you!
edit - you should AT LEAST have a disclaimer about the original art
Hi,
I'll take this opportunity to both apologize for mistakes I made and also speak to the latitude that artists have when making the use of other images in new works of art.
My apology - the lesson I've learned - if I want to use another image to create a new transformative image, and I want to use it to promote my work, I need to ask for permission and/or make clear citations. I also need to communicate this to commercial partners.
I have apologized to Frank for this, and I will apologize to anyone in the community here, or anywhere else, for this as well. If you're a customer of Lynx Collection, please note that I will not submit any future works for sale that re-appropriate existing images without permission or citations.
As for the use of other images - I created new, transformative images based on pre-existing images or ideas. This has been part of making art since people began making art and that's true whether it shatters anyone's ideals or not.
If Picasso's critics used search engines to put together the story of how he stole ideas from African artists, he would have had worse critics than Shepard Fairey shouting plagiarism. See this article for a similar analysis of Fairey's re-appropriated art:
http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/Because I have studied Fairey's work extensively, I know very well how many of his works are re-appropriated. I still respect Fairey as an artist and very much continue to enjoy his artwork, because he sees something different in the images he uses and he creates something transformative with them. This is one of the main reasons I chose to create art pieces using some of his ideas, and others. I never have simply passed off someone else's work as mine. If you look at my art, you will notice that there is without a doubt an overwhelming majority of NEW ideas and imposed over the former ideas, which are used as a framework for the development of my own. The art takes on an entirely new meaning and this is what I want to communicate visually.
If you have a problem with my or my artwork I welcome you to address it with me. You can find me on instagram @hodlcrypto twitter @hodl_crypto and my email is
