Just thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Alex from the UK. Only just got into Bitcoin mining recently (is it too late I have to ask myself, he he). I bought a ATI 7950 to mine with, hashing at 560MH/s using guiminer initially, now bfgminer, both with poclbm kernel. I did try other kernels, but they all seem to slow it down to the 350-450 range for some reason. The card is attached to a TARDIS PC Case (Doctor Who being my main love, he he), running a i7 3770s with 16GB Ram, and I have a 29TB Ubuntu file server which has started seeing some use for bitcoind, etc.
Been lurking quite a bit on the forum, before I registered, just to get hints and tips on what to do. I'm now in the process of moving from my first pool (EclipseMC EU server) to p2pool, fingers crossed it works and the return maybe a bit better. I'm interested in the ASICs, but with them being specific to bitcoining, and the difficulty going through the roof, I'm not sure if I should or not? I do prefer to have something to tinker with, so would prefer one to buying a share (which is the better way of getting a Return on my Investment, but not as fun). I did look at FPGAs, but the price per GH/s is just too high for them at the moment. Hopefully I'll make my mind up before what happened with my 7950 happens to ASICs, the difficulty is just too high to get enough shares with so many multi ASIC boxes out there.
Anyway, enough of my rambling on. Looking forward to being part of the community, and hope I can help out others, as well as gain help myself.
Alex
Based on that it sounds like you may find a lot of help/answers in the mining section
