What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger
Hello! I've been looking around the forums for a merit-giveaway thread and I happened to get here, the last posts seem to be a bit old though, do you still run this?

Anyway, regarding alt-coin mining, if all you need is one post then my latest one which I still remember where to find (lol) is this: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.45976198

PS: The reason I've been looking for a merit-giveaway thread was because I'm kinda close to ranking up... maybe you know the feeling when playing an MMORPG and you're so close to hit max level after many months, so you pull an all-nighter to reach it! Maybe you don't... nevermind!

I think the merit system has its merits, only the ratios should be adjusted a bit as it is insanely hard to get a person to do one click apparently. If ratios get adjusted, then buying merit becomes easier.

It is a difficult problem to solve and even a lot of nice guys like you can't make it work at current conditions. Appreciate the effort though.

One possible line of thought would be to make giving merit somehow selfserving, as the desire to help others doesn't appear to be a predominant thread on this forum or planet.

One solution that is proven to work and would fix all the 3000 aholes is a couple of nice guys like you finally getting a chance to do something about it. It's an everyday struggle, banhammer whack-a-mole and not very decentralized. Some people (or a whole class of them) have the ability to self-regulate, but most don't. And as the community grows there will be less of the self-regulating ones proportionally speaking and the aholes takeover.

Not a very decentralized solution, but you can't really change people.

hi philip,

i am a follower of your work and posts, you personally helped me at some time regarding an antminer and i have followed your instructions for building some rigs

So, I am a miner of BTC and of some ALTs and since my arrival in this forum i got and i offered in turn, info and help, especially for mining staff. I am not posting links because all the action is in the Greek section

Further on the above, I am really getting pissed of ICOs, their bounties and some of bounty managers that they are not honest in what they are saying and I am "after them" when I can, regardless if i have participate or not
Some recent links (in which I haven't participate)

You are a good man. But your position does not solve the problem of merit. This system conservation accounts. The user is forced to ask to pay attention to him. I hope that this experiment will be declared invalid. Now the situation requires the consolidation of the crypto community. Your position is a good example to follow.

Well it is an attempt to weed out the thousands  of nasty A-holes  on this forum.

Most likely there are 1000 to 3000 accounts  maybe more  being used to rip off and hurt people.

Do I think merit will fix this no but it is a step  to some kind of solution.

I think the very nature of cryptocoins  being non reversible and kind of anonymous is what causes these  bad apples to flock to this site.

I try to help, but it is really hard work.  Escrows  can be really tough to do sometimes a 2 or 3 thousand dollar escrow  where I get 40-60 dollars  in payment can take 2 weeks and 30 pms  to do correctly  maybe 2 or 3 hours of work.  Multiply that by 3 or 4  outstanding escrows  where I may be holding 10,000 usd in coin and every one has an issue to solve. Add to that  30 gpus rigs to manage a dozen s-9s ½  dozen avalons 6 nicehash accounts. 4 or 5 pc builds for people.  Maybe 10 sales and I am a one man show.

Some mornings I wake up and say WTF.  Trying to run this thread  means  100 to 200 posts to read on some days.

Trying to run the alt coin thread  and lastly  doing reviews  means I am busy.

It is still fun some days  other days  not so much.

But I read your Italian and German posts  and a lot of them have good info on setting gear and software.

So It was nice to see someone that  writes in 3 languages  and gives good mining info for free.

I really hate asking for this, but I think I'm one of those 'inbetweeners" that got hosed by the new merit system.  My activity broke over 480 in the last month or so... so I should have been upgraded to Hero.  When I checked to see why that didn't happen, I noticed the Merit link in my profile.  After reading a bit about, I understand why the merit system exists, but now I have to generate 250+ merit to get to Hero status.

ive only been in the game since early 2017. started mining about 3 months ago, wish id jumped in the pool sooner. once i started hashing away, i REALLY started to fall down the blockchain rabbit hole lol. i bought my first bag of btc a 3k, ltc sub 50 (man, that was such a good buy!), and eth sub 150s. never threw in any more fiat after that. i started trading with gains, but had i just hodled, my overall %age growth wouldve been far greater. i picked up some really dumb bags like funfair, vertcoin, monacoin, tenx, civic, einsteinium, potcoin, numeraire, and a few more. im still holding those bags hoping they get to the bubble like valuations they got pre 20k btc correction.

had a question for you. do you think atomic swaps will drive up the value of coins like vert and mona? i could do a search, but just been busy.

atomic swaps will be huge - see DCR-LTC atomic swap demo - it will be good plus for any coin that has that feature.

Rule #1 .... always HODL -- more than 3 months for long term coins.

Rule #2......You lose money only when you sell -- stay invested

Rule #3.... There is no such thing as a bad profit - don't be greedy  biggest rule to understand right here

Rule #4..... Never trade when drunk, after an argument with spouse, death of family hamster...

Rule #5..... a good portfolio have no more than 4-5 coins - easy to manage -- KISS

Rule #6 .... always take some small profit when coin goes all-time-high --- everybody buys, you sell

Rule #7..... Don't sell the family Volvo to fund your crypto trades... invest in what you can afford

Rule #8..... Always have a emergency USDT or BTC stashed somewhere for good buys during dips

Rule #9.... Day trading is hard and for the experienced, 99% traders lose money. Think Investing not Trading.

Rule #10.... Ignore bitcoin and crypto currencies news from main stream media (CNBC, ABC, CBS, CNN etc)

understand profit and its value.

understand
 gear = coin
coin = gear.

I am selling gear now
a lot.
I kept some in coin.
and a lot in cash.

why is this?
By selling a 1070 at 500 say a 50 dollar markup and cheaper then anyone. I make very little profit maybe 20 bucks and the mining it did say 100

so I turned 450 usd into 570 usd

but I purchased when coins were 19000 and sold when coins were 11000

so I did magical profit the best possible

fiat profit and btc profit

450/19000 = 0.023684 btc

570/11000 = 0.051818 btc

so yeah $450 to $570 fiat is   26.67% profit in fiat
and 0.023684 btc  to 0.051818 btc  is  118.78 % profit in coins

understanding this chance to sell gear at the right time is very very very very very important.

the beauty of this is I am helping out miners as I am selling at cheaper prices then anyone.

I saw this unfolding in JAN and continuing into FEB.

and it all follows on the profit taking rule number 3.  many do not understand it. I got very lucky here with the gpu shortage and i was not greedy  on the fiat end at all.  Thus others can turn some Profit.
.

A tip for those intimidated by Ubuntu, and are comfortable with windows.

Windows 7 and Windows 10 ask that you enter a license key, and nag you for a license key, but in no way have reduced effectiveness if you do not enter one.  Windows 7 is easier to manage drivers with, and updates are very controllable.  The only drawback other than the nagging for a license, is difficulty replacing the background.  For mining, it works just fine.

If you want to stop Windows 10 doing updates, go to services and disable the windows update service.

deleted  because it tells people to do wrong by windows.

I can tell people they should do that or that they can do it.

But I have had more then one good windows go bad and left it as you described since it only means.

That is windows doing bad by me.  They owe me a good copy  since I paid newegg for a good one and entered the good number which went bad later.

My statement would not hold me libel for any wrong doing.  As some how my number must have been hacked.

Btw people are drifting off topic.  But I will read some of your other posts.

the beauty of this is I am helping out miners as I am selling at cheaper prices then anyone.

I saw this unfolding in JAN and continuing into FEB.

and it all follows on the profit taking rule number 3.  many do not understand it. I got very lucky here with the gpu shortage and i was not greedy  on the fiat end at all.  Thus others can turn some Profit.

yiimp.eu is a great pool, I also like suprnova, miningpoolhub, zpool.ca for larger pools that offer many different algorithms and/or coins to choose from. Smiley

I'll give merit to someone who points me to a alt coin pool that is small like Kano's.  In addition if a prop pool is better or not.  I am new to alt coins and there is pages after pages of pools to wade through.

http://akroma.minerpool.net/

nice coin to jump on before a difficulty bomb.

havent researched it much, but a few friends are mining it.

I like

yiimp.eu

Good for new coins.

Op is ccminer's tpruvot, how good is that.

ive only been in the game since early 2017. started mining about 3 months ago, wish id jumped in the pool sooner. once i started hashing away, i REALLY started to fall down the blockchain rabbit hole lol. i bought my first bag of btc a 3k, ltc sub 50 (man, that was such a good buy!), and eth sub 150s. never threw in any more fiat after that. i started trading with gains, but had i just hodled, my overall %age growth wouldve been far greater. i picked up some really dumb bags like funfair, vertcoin, monacoin, tenx, civic, einsteinium, potcoin, numeraire, and a few more. im still holding those bags hoping they get to the bubble like valuations they got pre 20k btc correction.

had a question for you. do you think atomic swaps will drive up the value of coins like vert and mona? i could do a search, but just been busy.

atomic swaps will be huge - see DCR-LTC atomic swap demo - it will be good plus for any coin that has that feature.

Rule #1 .... always HODL -- more than 3 months for long term coins.

Rule #2......You lose money only when you sell -- stay invested

Rule #3.... There is no such thing as a bad profit - don't be greedy

Interesting post on satoshi vs usd when mining.

Sent you a point.

sweet, my first merit. thanks citronick. even if i just end up breaking even, the learning experience has been the real reward.

Yes, your observation is on the dot on that sats vs usd - when mining or even trading.... well almost.

During the turbulent days of BTC, I used ETH pairing when trading.

However, during the BTC sub 10k recently, I switched back to BTC pairing, anticipating a quick recovery and this may drag up the overall value of my portfolio when BTC breaks 10k. Now at 11k+, my trading portfolio looks very pretty good.

Send me some merit points if you find this strategy useful - LOL - just kidding guys - I need to do the same as what Phil. I have 200 points to give away and will be keeping an eye out for quality and useful posts.

Hi Sir Phil, I was wondering in this section of alternate cryptocurrencies and I saw your post it catches my eyes because I just rank up from newbie but I read some post that when you want to rank to member you must have merit to rank up but i dont have. I would try my luck here if my post is bad or good enough to check.

What a great idea to distribute merit. I tried to give one out the other day, which I thought I'd be able to because I got one, but I guess it doesn't work that way, so it's great that someone with the ability is actually doing something to help people with newer accounts. Thank you!

I was thinking of submitting something but then thought that if noone with merit-giving capacity noticed your post then it is not worth a merit because it was a blank shot. I would prefer a merit point on merit.

But thanks for the thought and education into the process.

Cheers.

Phil - I clicked the merit topic link in your thread and arrived here.

Question.

Will the merit point, further ensure that in the event that my account is hijacked/hacked, merit points can help me secure it back from the Bitcointalk ops safely?

If yes, can you help send me 1 point.

Thanks.

POST NOTES:
I just noticed that I have merit points next to my avatar.
How did that happen?
Did I receive it from other members?

Hi philip, awesome thing you are doing here. Thank you.

I have a post i'd like to submit. Its an attempt of mine to keep the mining rig picture thread alive since its always been a great inspiration for me and hopefully, other altcoin miners out there too. I believe you have quite a few pictures on that thread too.

Here's a link to my post: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.24869708

If you were not selling it I would have given you a point as showing 8 different cards working is good info.
I will read more of you posts as that one was interesting.

You had many good posts with helpful info I gave you a point.

I have 23 to give.

Tired will read deeper into other requestors post.

To all those that fucking hate merit system please don't shit on this thread. I will simply quote it and delete it.

To others please don't fight or argue with those that are angry about the merit system.

It is an attempt to slow or curb spam for sig campaigns and an attempt to slow promotion to Hero and Legendary  as those account are better to steal with if you play the game that way.

I am going to try this again.

Last one was derailed.

Very simple rules I am giving away 24 merits.  None to heroes none to legendary.
I self modded thread as the last one was hijacked by one person and a second person attempted to fight a battle against him.

So here goes impress me with your older posts just ask for a point I will go back and read your posts.  If I like them I will give you a merit point.

Once I give away 24 points I will close thread.
