Even if it was possible to transact bitcoin somehow, but no one in the civilization could sustain their food, it wouldn't last long until you'd start trading 1-2 BTC for flour, rice, oil and beans.

Which would still be a significant step up from the 10k BTC Pizza Smiley

Then again, depending on where you live, it would probably become pretty hard to get the ingredients for a proper Pizza so maybe the 10k wouldn't be that far off.

In an electrical-grid-down scenario? So will your computer, phone, tv, refrigerator, lights, microwave, vacuum cleaner, coffee maker, air conditioner, water heater, washing machine etc. In an internet-turned-down scenario? Realistically, every electronic payment system.

Note that even if bitcoin remained online, but these devices didn't, it would crash in value. Even if it was possible to transact bitcoin somehow, but no one in the civilization could sustain their food, it wouldn't last long until you'd start trading 1-2 BTC for flour, rice, oil and beans.

Firechat was used a lot during the Hong Kong protests in 2014. If you search for "mesh network app" you'll find similar apps as well.

Assuming a global outage there's nothing to be done though, as there would be no electricity for miners.

Assuming there's still localized pockets of miners running, you run into the challenge that the mesh network still needs to somehow connect to the rest of the internet, where the miners are reachable. This could work if there's still an internet gateway in your city. Near impossible if you're in a rural area with low population and thus mesh node density. As connectivity between miners degrade, chain splits become an issue as well.

So in a post-apocalyptic world without the internet, electricity, and maybe water, your biggest worry would be how to send bitcoin? Bitcoin can already work over satellite or via radio waves. But again that requires electricity or a power generator of some sorts.

Maybe water? Definitely water. Unless you start collecting rain, have access to a well or live near a large body of freshwater you won't have water either, as there would be no power for the water pumps.

How are people going to charge their phones with no electricity? Don't say solar chargers please because majority of people don't have those. And there would probably be a shortage of them since everyone would want one. With no electricity, it's not going to be easy to mass-produce them.

One of the concerns I have is that they could take down the electrical grid or internet as a plan to bring in the global reset, etc.  If that happens, having Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies might lose their usefulness at least temporarily.

This idea might be out there already but is it possible to write apps that enable cell phones to directly connect to each other, forming a network off grid?  Sort of an wireless Internet outside corporate and government control.
