Hi,

My family owns a warehouse that has tons of empty space and an old server room. The ventilation system is tied to outside to bring in cold air. This particular room stays around 40 f.

I am new to mining, and curious if these assets could be put to good use. I have both bit coin and usd to invest, if it's something still obtainable.

I'll keep browsing to see if I can figure out what a rig would net.

Thanks for any advice or input.

Good deal, but I would wait a little while before starting

they're ~2x more power efficient.

says who?

Educated guess.

Hashing power is simply (clock speed)*(Stream Processors)/Code Efficiency

Code efficiency being how many ALU Ops are required for each hash (currently ~3450).

6850   (775MHz)*(960 SP) /3450 = 220 MHash/s  @ 120W = 6600 GH/kWh
7850   (850MHz)*(   1408 SP) /3450 = 350Mash/s @ 90W = 14000 GH/kWh

Not quite double but pretty close.  Also we can look historically.  Every die shrink AMD has completed  (55nm to 40nm for example) in the past has roughly increase performance per Watt by 60%-80%.

Current gen cards get about 6000 to 8000 GH/kWh.
The 7000 series will be in the 12000 to 14000 range.

I didn't know the released the specs on it, but it sounds like you know your shit.

But, hardware has *some* resale value! Expect 50%, hope for more!
Depending on your locale, E can be quite expensive!

It's all about the game, and how you play it

Think about electricity consumption, then think about the exchange rate of BTC, and what your ultimate goal is!

You can definitely make good use of that space!
Although, buying  might be cheaper ATM!

Is the power the expensive part or the actual hardware? I technically wouldn't be paying for the electricity, so that helps my roi

The cards are expensive today, the power is expensive over their lifetime, so they both are.

The hardware is the expensive part.

Pick any of the top cards, copy their price and hashrate and paste them here, set electricity to 0:

Right now, you're >1.5yr for a return on the card price on any card (not counting the other components to the computer).

I think the general consensus is if you want Bitcoins, right now it's cheaper to buy than to mine.

However if you really want to mine, look into seeing when the 7x series AMD GPUs will be released: they're ~2x more power efficient.

Hope this helps
