Thanks for raising awareness OP.
Be careful in downloading apps related to AI because you'll never know what it contains and you'll soon be affected on it. Another trick that's being used and abused with the popularity of these AI apps is about making altcoins that are likely to scam and milk investors money.
These developers do whenever there's such a trend, they're quick in making projects that's named after that app or project that has gathered a lot of attention in the internet.
Since it's easier to make altcoins today, be it meme or not. These developers are taking the advantage of the popularity of a service for them also to fool people thinking that they're related to the actual service but they're not.

I'm not worried but the newbie is, we people are evolving and our technology too, ChatGPT is famous AI you can send your question there and also about coding and I know that ChatGPT is still no app if I'm correct? Scammers are not stopping, They're learning some new stuff just to scam people and Newbie will aware of this.

That's why we all beed to make this awareness together in letting other newbies unaware know that there's an ongoing scam attempt through the use of this advanced technology everyone is trying to get along with, the problem isn't about the ChatGPT but those that will launch their own personal interest attacking others unaware of the whole system, you will also agree with me that whenever there's a newly introduced system, scammers try to quickly cease every opportunity in it by taking advantage on those unaware and scam them.

there are full-on malware-laden apps and web pages that target Windows and Android devices, and are designed to deceive users into installing malware on their devices or provide personal information by pretending to be legitimate ChatGPT-powered apps https://www.globalvillagespace.com/tech/chatgpt-a-bigger-scam-threat-than-cryptocurrency/?amp=1

Additional Tips:

There's no app or websites for ChatGPT yet where you can download or get the verified app through an official website, some may demand money from you to make payment before they can offer you such, recommend you a link or require you to provide some information about yourself, know this that ChatGPT is meant to be freely provided from a genuine source, anyone claiming they already have this are likely to be scam because it has not been fully operational yet. read more here:

I had been redirected to the play store once, and I thought it was the legitimate ChatGPT application. Good thing that I did not decided to install it on my phone. It was an advertisement if I remember it correctly.

About the phishing matter, how does these hackers exactly do it? i mean, do they use the actual ChatGPT AI to spread their fake apps? Where did it came from before getting to the victims?

I saw a lot of AI ads related stuff on my Facebook but since I didn't have an interest in that AI bot, I didn't click any because this was what I thought.  How can you make sure you've downloaded the right files?

So this isn't new for me, when there's hype, scammers will always have different strategies to deceive people and by using trending events or technologies like ChatGPT, scammers can make their messages more appealing and believable to potential victims.  People are more likely to click on a link or download a file if it seems to be related to something they are interested in or familiar with without verifying if that's true.

IMO, only naive people will always fall into the trap, we should be knowledgeable always.

This is another hype or technology that scammers are exploiting, there's a lot of talk on the benefits of the usage of AI and ChatGPT (generative pre-trained transformed) this is openly promoted on the internet I've seen a lot of advertisements of these AI ChatGPT on social media ads like Facebook, I'm pretty sure many of these ads are from scammers.

They ask you to download their software where these scammers' malicious code are inserted and this can harm your computer's security.

The only way to avoid being a victim of these scams ChatGPT is to be well informed and check the right information on trusted sources because educated users cannot be harmed or become a victim of these fake ChatGPT, make it a habit to read, ask and verify and you'll be in the right path.

thanks, OP for the information, I'm still confused why people are trying so hard to find the perfect AI over chatGPT when there is no perfect AI including chatGPT, are they too lazy to think LOL?

I don't forbid the use of AI because it really helps work easier so far but downloading or clicking randomly on AI programs really doesn't make sense, why not play it safe?

Scammers are always trying to find the soft spot of the victim.  So it is not surprising that there is an alarming increase in scams that uses ChatGPT technology as bait.  These scammers often take advantage of the trend and hot topics.  Scammers would gladly exploit the weaknesses of their victims by triggering their greed when it comes to investment and earning money.

People tends to believe everything so theres really chance that scammers will exploit the trend on ChatGPT and try to scam money. Even with crypto related, anything chatgpt topics are being use. The trick here is to always check malicious sites or any websites that are pulling off downloadable apps or anything to ease the use of chatgpt. Thats total bullshit!

People who are triggered by greed lost control of reasoning, this is one reason why people fall for scams.  Another reason is being ignorant, due to laziness, exitement, or greed that they failed to verify the authenticity of the offer since scammers always create a scheme that triggers the feeling of urgency.

Chatgpt should always warn or remind users that there is no other applications of them being promoted.

I agree on this, Chatgpt shoud also help in preventing people to fall to scams that uses chatgpt by giving warnings and reminders to their users.

In my city, I recently discovered some people who claim that they can sell accounts on open.ai so that the buyer can benefit from the chatgpt application, with confirmation that they cannot register from our country.  This is one of the methods used by scammers everywhere, I believe, since the technology is modern and no one has enough knowledge yet.
The best thing to do is to alert you to any spam attempts that are detected and to explain that the technology is free.

This has gotten a lot of attention because I've been receiving notifications on one of my Crypto news channels about phishing attempts by scammers using AI like ChatGPT to launch phishing scams on social media users.

A growing number of malware creators are now taking advantage of the significant interest in Chatgpt to lure victims, Facebook owner Meta has noticed. According to its head of information security, the AI-based chatbot is “the new crypto” for bad actors and the social media giant is preparing for various abuses.
This information was obtained from .Bitcoin.com and coming across this thread made me think that it is critical for the ChatGPT developers to strengthen their security because scammers will use anything they see as an advantage to scam people.

I haven't paid much attention to AI yet, so I'm not aware that they don't have an official website from which to download a verified app. This means that developers must be very cautious and strengthen their security in order to avoid directing users to the wrong website or providing an official website from which to download or access the genuine application.

The creators of these Artificial intelligence tools have good intentions. Although it has its shortcomings it is a product that will assist workers in different areas of life. As usual, scammers will always take advantage of new inventions and use the opportunity to swindle people. One of the ways of avoiding this scam is to get information about the AI tool you want to install or use. Gather enough information about the producers and the kind of service they offer. If the company sells its package and another website is offering you a free service of the same product, you need to be careful. Be cautious about cheap or free AI services.

You can get relevant information about an AI tool from the website of the creators. I have had to contact some universities that offer the AI service I need and we had a good deal. Many top firms offer services and you can access them through their verified website.

Honestly, this is not a big surprise, nor is it particularly new. Any new big thing that grabs a lot of attention from customers is always a target for phishing.ChatGPT is currently extremely popular, with millions of users which is an excellent basis for scammers to try to get some benefit out of it.

At the moment, the problem may be that its creators obviously did not expect this much fame in a short period of time, so they did not pay enough attention to the potential of fraud and phishing. When we add to that that social media have weak control over such phishing offers, the risk is more than obvious.

Considering that it is artificial intelligence, surely there are ways to at least minimize this problem if it cannot be completely avoided.
