Yes that is unfortunate.
But with Bitcoin you essentially have cash on your computer like you would have cash in your home.
You wouldn't leave 400k of cash in you living room, would you?

Yes, that was really really bad. Hopefully the hacker community knows how important it is now, to keep the whole Bitcoin system reliable and safe. Otherwise it will be down very soon, if bad crackers gets overwhelming.

Just registered on the forum as I'm new to bitcoin and wanted to say hello and join the community.
Hope everyone is going well. Was awful to hear about that poor guy that lost almost 500k worth. Oh well, these things are bound to happen.
