Hmm dude.I think you look at it at wrong side.Maybe thats just 200 mbtc not  btc.200mbtc is equal to 0.2 in btc while 200 btc is 200.0000 btc in real. And 0.2 btc work exactly or more than $83 so maybe the amount your friend sent to you is in mbtc form not in btc because if that was a whole btc that will cost for about $110,500 in accurate rate of bitcoin now.Hope i answered you

hello all, recently a close friend sent me 200 bitcoins through multibit, i got an account set up and everything. but i thought bitcoins were worth an insane amount of money, ( CAD- bitcoins are $573) but it says its only worth $83.72. the number of bitcoins it has in the account says 200.000 am i wrong on the amount of bitcoins i have?

I wish someone send me 200BTC  Grin .Btw .2BTC is still good if you got it for free.  Cheesy

haha me too but trust me, this is my second account and with the first one I've got enough btc to buy myself a tablet, a coat and some pens for cake for my mom. Cheesy jsut make sure to enter a good high ranked sig campaign once you get there. Cheesy

You maybe say 200mBTC that is a fraction of BTC unit.

Please check this useful links to understand better how Bitcoin unit is divided:

Hope this helps!

Maybe it is only 200mBTC... Since 1 BTC is about $415 now, 200mBTC = 0.2BTC is only about $83.
You must recieve 200mbtc not 200 btc, but having 200mbtc is also a good thing. You can start with a good way with these 200mbtc, Welcome to bitcoin world!

Welcome to the Bitcoin world indeed. With 200 BTCs you will be anyone's bestfriend. Lol. Check out the beginner's section, there's great info there.

He said he just got 200 mBTC. Even though it is a small amount, it is good to start with. Who knows how many he will have in the future.

Are you sure it's 200 bitcoins ? Because it's really big amounts of bitcoins. I'm thinking same like others here, i think your friend give 200mbtc to you. That's why the price is only that.

It's a lot of amount considering one btc of 390 dollar approx. What I guess is that it must be satohsi rather than btc. By the way he's a great friend of yours if he really send u that much bitcoins.
Nice

again this is teh reason prefix are bad, milli micro etc, confused newbie, better to use divisors or one bitcoin, so here we are talking about 0.2 only

or another way is viewing them as a fiat, so 0.01 is 1 cent of bitcoin, 0.2 is twenty cent and so on

There is nothing wrong with the conversion, so either you have only 0.2BTC or you your BTC value isnt showing in BTC, but in mBTC, satoshis,...

Hmmm.... maybe your friend made a mistake. He wanted to send you 200BTC with 200mBTC fee, but made a mistake by sending you 200 mBTC with 200 BTC fee.

Share us the your public address and we can let you know where the problem was.
Everyone, this is an example of a sig farmer who doesn't even bother reading what the other posts were about. Stupid explanation probably comes with the package.

OP, you should lock this thread as others said, you recieved 200 mBTC , a unit of BTC , something like cents are to dollars. Go to lower-left corner and click "Lock topic"

Slightly envious for a friend like that. But I did mine on my own. I would have SCREAMED if they had sent you 800 FULL btc.

Save it and when you save up enough, or better still, with fiat, get an Antminer S5 or so. Mine altcoins and cash them in for

btc. This way, you'll make more coins.

200 bitcoins through multibit
Mulitbit displays the value in mBTC.

but i thought bitcoins were worth an insane amount of money, ( CAD- bitcoins are $573) but it says its only worth $83.72.
Bitcoins are not worth insane amount of money, but yes it has a value which is bigger than most of the fiat's.

the number of bitcoins it has in the account says 200.000 am i wrong on the amount of bitcoins i have?
Did you expect your close friend to send you 200 btc (80k~ $) and not inform you that ?

the bitcoin wallets should really change their default unit setup to the traditional decimal point. that way it is going to be simple and none-confusing for any first time user and other users can easily change the unit on their own in setting.

you received 200Mbits and not 200 bitcoins ,which is equivalent to 81600$, and thats the reason you got 83$

Bitcoins are divisible up to eight decimals and wallets display them in various guises. Some will show complete bitcoins, others will divide them up into smaller units. mBTC is a common one so it looks like that's what your wallet is displaying them in. 1000 mBTC is a complete bitcoin.

200mBTC is actually quite good point to start with. You can try to purchase something with it and experience the new way of payment transfer.
