Yes you are right it is in efficient to invert up to preferably 220V just to feed high current 12vdc PSU's. BUT the key point is that it MUST be a stable ergo regulated 12 volts and preferably and couple 10th's more.

There ARE server PSU's made to run off of 48vdc. Not easy to find but they are out there. Or build your own using a couple switching supply modules from Intersil. They easily parallel to deliver up to 250amps with Min input just a few volts above your output and as I recall 50vdc max input voltage.

Search the Intersil site for FPGA Power Module

Now considering that most solar panels I've seen put over 36v and often use battery banks to match, should not be that hard if you are familiar with building electronics.

Hello all. I'm new to this forum lol, So anyway. lets get down and dirty with what I am trying to do.

I have some antminer s2 (i know its old) but i picked it up for dirt cheap. still mines but i think the power usage is threw the roof for what it mines in coins. SO
an idea crossed my mind, what if it was solar powered? And i tried it but the inverter to run it is expense so i wondered again... sounds kinda dumb to take 12V DC
bump it up to 120V AC and then back down to 12v DC for the miners... hm

Before i try this and blow up my miner by trying to mod it... Any suggestions to put out there? I opened it and kinda looked at it and im 90% sure it only uses 12V so its possible

just some feed back before i screw it up would be nice. Cheesy thanks

(edit) I want to try this and see how hard it would be, before i go out and buy the S9 wich should make more coin for the power used. And i wont have to buy a power supply for it witch is more
money wasted if i could of just run it off the 12V system. ALSO
the solar system is 10kw, though.. sadly it never makes that more like 7-8kw on a good sunny day and 4kw on cloudy ones. No battery bank yet though.. yet to come
